Wonder how this same analytics, collaboration, & prioritizing best available over team need process worked during the Solomon Thomas over Patrick Mahomes decision?

The vast majority of this forum agreed with that decision, I was told I was insane for saying that I'd take Mahomes @ 2. Don't start with the revisionist history unless you have the receipts that back up the opinion. Very few were high on Pat in that draft.

Exactly, I didn't even know much about mahomes let alone want to draft him.

Including the majority of draftniks.
Really hope this guy doesn't turn into a Mostert/Breida
Is he cut yet

Start? That revisionist history has been going on already for a couple of years now! I was higher on Mahomes than most, and I got laughed at for saying we should trade up into the early 20's to get him. He was my favorite QB in the class, but based on all the mocks and info I did not think he'd go before then. Several scouting reports had him as a 2nd rounder, and i saw one that had him as a 3rd.

Mitchell was on the field for the 49ers' first open practice on Tuesday. The third-year back is on track to be fully healthy after missing 12 games to injury last season. Mitchell will open 2023 as the 49ers' RB2 and the top hedge to Christian McCaffrey.

If he can have a big year the Niners offense will be scarier

I doubt he makes it through training camp. Max availability 7 games this season

Yeah, but we aren't really supposed to. Between the two best play callers/offensive minds in football (Reid & Shanahan), one passed and one moved up for him. That's the difference. Probably has a lot to do with Kyle being super young and inexperienced while Reid was a vet

my assumption would be that they've developed and tweaked the analytic models over the 6 years they've been here. So it either didn't exist yet or wasn't a reliable model yet that it is today (or has been).

also, this is why I say Cousins is the worst thing to happen to the 49ers in recent history. Lol he's our true arch nemesis

I think the difference was that Reid was looking for a QB to draft and Kyle already had a plan in place to go after Kirk Cousins the following year. He knew our roster wasn't very good so he and Lynch gave themselves a year to get that in shape so when they brought in Cousins the next season, they would be able to hit the ground running. In the meantime, they would ride with Hoyer, who was familiar with the system and could help implement it with the players. By his own admission, Kyle never did much scouting on Mahomes because he thought he would have a QB coming in that he liked and wouldn't have to wait to develop.

Personally, I have never spent a single second wishing we had drafted Mahomes, seems kind of pointless. You get the players you get and hope they turn out the way you envisioned. Mahomes is a terrific Chief, so more power to him. For a time, it looked like Jimmy might be a ten-year answer at the position, now we have Brock, and maybe Lance. We'll see what happens. Go Niners!

I think they're waiting until the potato you use for a brain to make these posts blossoms into a fully functional brain so your posts can be meaningful.

My issue isn't necessarily mahommes, it's that we needed a qb badly and passed on a couple of top notch ones for crappy cousins.

i just struggle to understand why Kyle thought deshaun watson, Lamar jackson & Mahomes were not as good of options as Kirk freakin cousins. Lol never have I thought cousins was anything better than an above average game manager.

Obviously you never know how good someone will be but if kyles this brilliant qb guru, he would see those things. I personally would of taken all three over cousins and I don't even care for Jackson.

to me, it's just more proof that Kyle shouldn't be evaluating players in the draft and should just stick to coaching and play calling. Need to lock his ass out of the war room. Lol I don't trust any of his draft picks that I know he's pounded the table for. Lmao he obviously doesn't understand how to see evaluate qb talent in a draft

If Eli can finally put in a healthy season, the 49er running game is going to be amazing with him and CMC. Mason is good but Eli has on another level. His vision and ability to run through arm tackles is damn good and always surprises me when he initially comes back from an injury.

Those three could do some serious damage if all stay relatively healthy.
