Ambry Thomas, CB - Michigan, 3rd Round Pick

He needs to redshirt. If he sees the field this season, we're in big trouble and could ruin Thomas long term as well. I don't think he will dress at all this year. Man I wish we took Samuel in Rd 2

His playing the ball skills suck. He seems to be in phase with the wr. Turns his hips and runs with him. But as soon as the ball gets near him or the wr he loses focus. On the PI there was no need to grab the wr at all. He had good coverage

There was also no need to call the PI.

He grabbed the WR pretty clearly. It was an easy call.

WR grabbed him moreso.

They both had their hands extended. It could've gone both ways. In those cases I think the refs shoul just let them play.
I don't think ambry looked too bad, but Lenoir is just clearly ahead of him. Hopefully this is just rust from not playing last season. I'm giving this kid a chance.
Starting to resemble Whiterspoon 2.0. Both selected in the third round.
But Adam Peters!
Every pick aint gonna be hit out the park. If Lenoir turns out to be a diamond in the rough then finding a starting CB using a 3rd and a 5th is a win.
I started to compare him a little bit to Witherspoon. Close but no cigar on every play. I hope he improves but also very happy with DeMo. PFF has his targeted passing grade at a 0.0
I'm really not concerned. He'll be fine.
We all love to see every pick flash early but obviously that's rare to never. I'm not worried about Thomas. He needs to get stronger.

We shall see what he develops in to. I would like to think he can develop into a serviceable starter or at the least provide quality depth
At least in college he could play in phase AND make plays on the ball, something most of our cbs over the years hardly ever could do.
Ambry Thomas should not be redshirted, that will be 2 full years of not playing football an will essentially make him Jaylen Hurd who so many want to cut. He also had major surgery leading up 2019 season in which he was in hospital for awhile. He's got to play football week in an week out or it's a wasted pick

I mean, Thomas got a PBU there because he was playing the ball. The WR ran right into him. Sure, Thomas might have grabbed a little after the WR initiated contact, but he was clearly playing the ball and the WR was not. Was a BS PI call.

Other than that, I haven't liked Thomas's game so far this preseason. I feel a lot more comfortable with Lenoir at the moment.
