Yes a proven mvp who can still play vs a guy who might be a bust.

Easy choice

THANK YOU SUS...

you can tell the different type of fans we have here..

Group A - those who are MORE CURIOUS to see how the new player(s) will do the next 3 years

and Group B - those who wants to WIN now..

Lance is my guy, the QB I wanted for weeks now. I was super pumped when we got him. Having said that I spent the last few weeks being very critical of Kyles QB evaluations, and he also likes my guy.......
We are going to win now with Jimmy, and with Lance... the rookie is going to play game 1 going forward, Shanny will give him 2 or 3 play packages early to throw off the D and give the kid some experience, and if he does well with that it will expand to perhaps a series or two in a game late in the season...

Only thing I see right now with Lance's passing motion that needs to be changed is that he has a tendency to wind up when he pulls the ball back to start the throwing motion... the tell on this is that the ball will dip down than come back up above the shoulder line, that dip is a wasted motion and it slows down the delivery... he needs carry the ball a little higher up near the top of his chest, then pull the ball straight back without having it dip down.... looks like he also is somewhat of a "pointer" where he extends his left hand outward some when delivering the ball, this robs him of some power, so he needs to keep the off hand in tighter to his body to maximize the rotational inertia generated from his legs/hips/shoulders.

Other than that he appears to be a natural passer (unlike Kap), and much to work with.

It will be interesting to see what his motion is like after all the work with Beck and Scangarello. If they see that as a flaw, you can bet they will be working on it.

I think Shanahan said in his presser that he's not going to tinker with that throwing motion, and that's something that gets worked in on the offseason, presumably with private coaches who work specifically on that. His big thing is just focusing on the feet. Does that sound about right?

I think our understanding of what gets worked on over the course of season is that (1) he'll work on his knowledge of the playbook, (2) get used to the speed of the game, and (3) be prepared to play if Jimmy goes down.

If they trade Rodgers, they're rolling with Jordan Love and demanding a king's ransom from an AFC team for the league MVP.

Agree 100%

Err no. Salary cap, guys. And how many more years will he play? One? Maybe two? Then it is back to the beginning again but without Garoppolo as a bridge.

I wonder how Shanny will divvy up the reps to both have Jimmy ready to play week in and week out and also develop Lance because he needs reps. With the amount of time missed with injury even Jimmy himself still needs alot more game experience.

The team is trying to win now. The prerogative and focus will be on getting Jimmy all the reps he needs to doing that, and then giving Lance the backup reps.

Trey Lance is our QB of the Future, but for this season, he's slated to be the Back-up. Let's not forget that the 49ers DO love and believe in Jimmy. It's just the injuries that have been the problem. We picked Lance because his role is to be a back-up QB that we hope develops into a superstar QB in Year 2 onward.

...and the bonus will be the money saved on Lance's rookie contract versus an extension for Jimmy will allow the team to keep a lot of starters they would not keep otherwise. Plus, if Jimmy stays healthy, he will bring back some future draft capital. He will be worth AT LEAST the 2nd we gave to bring him here.

There's definitely an awkward internal debate some are now having.

"KYLES QB EVALUATIONS ARE TRASH!"

"Hey he picked the guy I really wanted!"

With his physical gifts (that running ability) i don't think he needs to totally master the passing game to be effective. With Mostert, Jeff, and Jamychal- worst case scenario he audibles to a run if he forgets the pass play call. But agree, he needs to master the basic passes to be even somewhat effective.

Shanahan has a history of being able to scheme around his QB. He did very well with RGIII in his rookie season. He beat the Rams last season using a "get the ball out of Jimmy's hands, fast!" gameplan when Jimmy was hobbled. He got a lot of yardage production out of Mullens, (but the kid committed too many turnovers to be consistently viable).

Especially that he's bringing Lance up from the ground up, he'll be able to bring him along smoothly. So long as Jimmy stays healthy this season and Lance isn't FORCED to come out early in the season, I think we're good.

He obviously has to pickup the playbook and his total recall should make that a quick weekend. The rest of the time will be spent on timing, reps, body mechanic work, and getting ready for the physical demands of the NFL. I hope we have a pre-season and can see how he's progressed from the college tapes. Then from there, you can gauge how much longer till he can compete with Jimmy. I'm so looking for him to play in certain redzone packages and certain 3rd down and short scenarios.
