Go watch footage of Kap in college. Now go watch footage of Lance. Kap was literally nowhere close to the level of prospect that Lance is....Seriously, go watch it. Not even close.

I remember Kap coming in against the Bucs while we were up 45 points. Just such an unnatural throwing motion.

As much as Kap's throwing motion was criticized a year or two later, almost like a night and day difference where he was in 2011, let alone prior.

My favorite thing about this pick is that they got the guy most likely to shrug off the guy that just blew by McGlinchey.

Kap had no touch because his delivery did not bring his elbow over the top of his shoulder line, that puts arc on the ball and enables touch throws... Lance brings it over the top, he will be fine

KAP had that baseball pitcher release ... he can hit his target all over the field as long as they are there.. but once it's a timing play, he can't do it.. that's why he's always having problem w/those slant route..

Haha you got your boy! I was watching it with a couple buddies and my one fellow NY 49er fan... there was some let's gooooo shouting, high fives, maybe a bro hug and a couple victory shots
Only thing I see right now with Lance's passing motion that needs to be changed is that he has a tendency to wind up when he pulls the ball back to start the throwing motion... the tell on this is that the ball will dip down than come back up above the shoulder line, that dip is a wasted motion and it slows down the delivery... he needs carry the ball a little higher up near the top of his chest, then pull the ball straight back without having it dip down.... looks like he also is somewhat of a "pointer" where he extends his left hand outward some when delivering the ball, this robs him of some power, so he needs to keep the off hand in tighter to his body to maximize the rotational inertia generated from his legs/hips/shoulders.

Other than that he appears to be a natural passer (unlike Kap), and much to work with.

With his physical gifts (that running ability) i don't think he needs to totally master the passing game to be effective. With Mostert, Jeff, and Jamychal- worst case scenario he audibles to a run if he forgets the pass play call. But agree, he needs to master the basic passes to be even somewhat effective.

Shanahan has a history of being able to scheme around his QB. He did very well with RGIII in his rookie season. He beat the Rams last season using a "get the ball out of Jimmy's hands, fast!" gameplan when Jimmy was hobbled. He got a lot of yardage production out of Mullens, (but the kid committed too many turnovers to be consistently viable).

Especially that he's bringing Lance up from the ground up, he'll be able to bring him along smoothly. So long as Jimmy stays healthy this season and Lance isn't FORCED to come out early in the season, I think we're good.

I tried to explain why Lance fits better than Fields and Jones for months but got serious backlash from it.

It was all about Lance's feet, the ability to sell the play fake, quick decision making, and his off the charts mental ability to recall his offense which was far closer to Kyle's scheme than any other QB.

I still think Fields will be a very good QB and Jones as well for that matter. But there's no doubt in my mind we made the right selection.
I wonder how Shanny will divvy up the reps to both have Jimmy ready to play week in and week out and also develop Lance because he needs reps. With the amount of time missed with injury even Jimmy himself still needs alot more game experience.

Do you have any thoughts on the causes of his bad throws?
I give up.

Would you trade Trey Lance for Aaron Rodgers?

I don't buy it one minute that Trey Lance was the guy all along. John Beck was asked with Lance much much later after the trade. I still think that Shanahan wanted Jones and Lance became somone others wanted. Lynch lied when they said they never made an offer to GB, meaning they weren't sold on the QBs. Aaron Rodgers even said that GB should have taken the offer. This FO was arguing about who to pick until the last minute and lying through their teeth.

If jones was the guy he would've been working out with beck. He was never an option once the trade was made. IMO it was between fields and lance. Kyle said he wanted the biggest, fastest, smartest qb that's not Mac who obviously they could've sat at 12 and got. f course you check on the mvp lunch said that in the presser. If they didn't check on Brady and Rodgers when they became available quite honestly they should've been fired.
