Compared to Jimmy? At the same time, Wentz going down in Indy is perfect for JimmyG and they'll love him there.

Jimmy is mentoring Trey to answer your question
Grant Cohn:

"Completed a 20-yard pass over the middle to Bennie Fowler. The pass was an absolute rocket -- it traveled on a line to the receiver. Lance has the strongest arm a 49ers quarterback has had since Colin Kaepernick."

Sounds like today was Lance's roughest day so far. But he's definitely not far behind Jimmy and has abilities Jimmy doesn't have. It sure seems like a 50/50 proposition for whether or not he starts week 1

That's not really saying much. All of our QBs since Kap have been pathetic noodle arms with the exception of Beathard.

50/50 proposition Lance starts Week 1? You really think that? Let's see Lance at least play in the preseason.

Garoppolo not starting Week 1 would be a huge upset & total surprise IMO.

Honestly yes. I think it's 50/50. When we drafted him, I figured week 7 was the over/under. But I really do believe it's a tossup for week 1. The next few days and preseason games will be very telling.

Wow. I mean, we'll see. I completely don't think so given what I've seen out of Garoppolo in running this O (when healthy), the competitor he's shown to be, and how he seems to be embracing the challenge out of the gate. And if he's QB1, playing well, and this team is winning like I very much believe will happen considering him + all the talent, I don't see Lance suddenly stepping in mid-season and becoming QB1.

We'll see. Let's let Lance at least get some preseason action in first though.
Funny to read how the practices are reported. Very few unbiased reports of the two guys. Weird enough Lombardi was one of the media guys saying it's Lance and yet he's still phrasing things with a pro Jimmy method. Grant of course is doing the opposite.

Just report both the same way and keep it consistent. I'm more curious about how we look vs other teams. Look forward to camp but of course you get into situations where one part of your team is taking the L.

Doesn't seem like a very good-looking throw at all. Not a very great decision either. Should have probably been picked off. This was supposably the good from today as well

It got there. They can't all be perfect spirals. I wouldn't worry about any bad throw right now or get too pumped about good ones. At least wait til preseason where other teams won't be pulling up.

Im going to sound like a grant shill but I really don't care at this point. Grant has been reporting a lot of impartial stuff lately. His latest video about the day 3 QBs performance was about as impartial as you could get.

He named the route the QB threw to and whether or not it was complete/incomplete. He didn't go hard on Jimmy and he didn't go easy on Trey.

Its up to the listener to decide what they want to get out of his reporting. To me I don't care about the number of incompletions from either guy. What I do care about is that a huge majority of the passes that Jimmy is throwing still appear to be short and between the hashes.

It sounds like Trey has been testing the deep half of the field a lot more often and connecting on quite a few.

100% true. I hate the argument about "shoulda been" interceptions. Was it an interception? No? Then lets move on. I loved Jimmy in 2017 for it especially. There were plenty of passes that he fit in extremely small windows that probably "shoulda been" intercepted but werent. Thats what good QBs do.
