Tbh he's in the best possible position to be in at this point. Sit behind a veteran QB in Herbert and learn from him while also getting development from Harbaugh to help boost his confidence. Who knows if he'll ever get another starting gig. Maybe if he balls out this preseason and shows improvement.

Thursday Preseason Starter.
I dont know how much Harbaugh can help Trey

Trey's problems aren't stemming from not taking care of the ball, which is what Harbaugh pounds into every QBs head he coaches
If anything Trey would be too timid to let it rip, to the point of Fred Warner commenting on it in practice.

I do think Harbaugh is a better psychological/people guy and a better leader than Kyle, so he might be a better QB teacher from human point of view....but accuracy is just something you cant teach a QB in his fifth year in the NFL

Trey, even on some teams with some real talent, hasnt even come close to Kaepernick of 2012. Like hes got a lot to go to even reach that level of QB. Im rooting for him as a person, but I think the hole has been dug too deep right now.
Harbaugh will always have a QB advantage over Kyle. He played the position for 19 years, college and Pro. Psychologically, QB's buy into what Harbs is saying, teaching. Trey Lance just turned 25 in May. Steve Young didn't start excelling until the age of 29.

I'm sure he's a better QB than Kyle, lol.

Actually coaching them to success? I think the evidence is certainly in Kyle's favor. There's no question his offense is better.

Well Kyle is also the offensive coordinator playcaller while Harbaugh isn't. Not really fair saying Kyle's offense is better. But Harbaugh has coached his QB's to success as well.

football is back:

but it's trey lance:
There are a lot of differences between Steve and Trey.

The whole supplemental draft thing, Steve has started more games in USFL than Trey has post-high school starts, iirc

Steve was considered a lot less of a project. He did start in Tampa for a season and a half.

Trey has like five starts in the league and its tough for him to even be a 2nd stringer now, let alone start. He now not only has to prove he's better than other veteran backups, while being a baby rookie in terms of live NFL games, but also needs a perfect storm of injuries to even get on the field.

It's much more of an uphill battle for Trey than it was ever for Young, in my opinion

You would like it if he was 10

Also, Steve was 30-31 when he had his breakout season.

A lot of y'all are fuming right now huh? Yeah it's against backups but Trey looked more confident tonight. More than he has ever been. A lot of y'all acted like he doesn't belong in the league. We'll see if he ever gets to start for a team but I noticed a difference being paired with Harbaugh than Kyle. He needed someone that believed in him.

Lol
Yeah I always have felt he was mismanaged here and got the short end of the stick. He was a project pick and never got a chance to be a project but Im definitely not fuming. He does look a lot more confident and like an NFL QB who can maybe earn a starting role for some team but he still has a lot to prove.

Or maybe it just took him 5 years. Would Harbaugh be able to work with him like this in year 1 and year 2?
