Ya it was. Unless you think you're smarter than NFL GMs, scouts, coaches, etc. You sit on your couch all day defending pedos so I doubt you know more than KS, Lynch, and our scouts.

Hell of a gamble by Lynch and Kyle. IMO their plan to play and grow him was solid, but injuries derailed it. He should have gone to CFL to get some actual playing time once we cut him.

Two of the top-3 biggest draft busts courtesy of the Johnny Boy / Kyle Shanahan duo.

Yeah too bad. Funny thing is Adam Peters was also on the team during those times. I remember some theories were heating up prior to 2021 draft day that had the 49ers selecting Kyle Pitts to pair with Kittle in an ultra-deadly two TE set. Man, at least Penei Sewell would have been worth three 1st rounders.

NFL fans will be treated to another Fields like flameout in Chicago. Caleb Williams is next.

Meh. Even Bill Walsh whiffed on his fair share of first picks in the draft. The first three names from Bill's first three 49er drafts, in order: Ken MacAfee, James Owens and Earl Cooper. Coop wasn't horrible. But he wasn't great either. Walsh just nailed rounds 2-12 though. Then, starting in '81 with the pick of Ronnie Lott, BW rolled. It's the middle rounds of the 1980 and 1981 teams that really built the first SB Champion squad. Shanny and Lynch have a similar talent with drafting talent in the middle to late rounds.
Ouch

Lol

According to a lot of folks on here he hasn't grown, so how was that a solid plan for a #3 overall pick? The expectation from that type of pick is incredible!
Giving up three first round draft picks made it even more unsettling than the Solomon Thomas pick.

It wasn't. It was comically bad decision making. Beyond arrogant if it didn't actually seem panicky.

Are you seriously comparing a three-time Super Bowl winning coach and NFL legend to a two-time Super Bowl loser?

Can he play WR? Bring Lance Back!

Truth.

I miss Bill, when football was at its absolute finest. He had a finesse that Kyle would never. But tbf, no other coach would either.

I think we all need to put Trey Lance in the rear view mirror. He made 34 million on his rookie contract and 1 million with the chargers this season . So good foe him he is not out of NFL.

its all in the past, focus on the future. The Niners just got lucky the first round rookie pool kept the dollar amount reduced . He was a 34 million dollar qb mistake . The Browns have a 230 million dollar qb mistake.

Majority of the qb's in that draft class sucked . Time to move forward

never understood it and never will. lol i remember my buddy and i talking and i was like "no way in hell we select lance. doesnt even make sense to consider him for the situation we are in". them i almost threw up when we actually took him. i remained optimistic for little but it was obvious he wasnt going to be "a guy".
