Let's say they ask Jimmy to rip up his contract and take a 1yr $12M deal (12th highest paid QB this yr and more in line with what he is) toss some incentives in there.
That's $41.4M that you can then use in 2022 (an extra $14.4M for this yr/roll over)
If they just ride it out and cut him then they get $25.6M in 2022.
I never said we "couldn't" make moves, where did I say that? I said I would absolutely like to have an extra $41M in extra cap space instead of $25.6M heading into 2022, or at least have that option. Why would you not? We got a QB that overall isn't worth his current cap hit, might not be the year long starter, AND injury prone...but you're totally fine giving him all that money? No thanks.
Why wouldn't Bosa sit out if he balls out this yr? They can still give him an extension (and still have the 5th yr option and 4th yr on the deal). He will want a hefty signing bonus though. That extra money can help with all kinds of things, given that we don't have any 1sts for years.
People assuming we can trade Jimmy is also a reach imo. I'll take that extra cash to pay our own or a couple good FAs vs banking on getting a day 2 or 3 pick for Jimmy down the road.
I mean reducing his cap hit this yr, makes it more likely they could move him before the deadline just as well.
This all is depending on how everyone looks during TC too.
I mean because once again you're insinuating that if Jimmy doesn't take a pay cut we're somehow screwed cap wise but that's not the case.
Am i fine with giving Jimmy all that money? No. But it's not my money. If they feel paying him that money so he plays nice nice all year before working with us to get him traded then I'm good with it.
Why would Bosa sit out? Nobody has been sitting out after the latest CBA. Bosa isn't from a family strapped for cash. His brother just cashed in after his 4th season. Yet you want to act like Nick will sit out the season if we don't extend him after his 3rd year and only 2 years on the field?
You're reaching for straws hard to make your basic point which is filled with feelings vs rationality. How about we stick to facts vs hypotheticals?
