Neither Lance or Darnold impress me in these two pre-season games overall.
But I would say this, what a gift to be the backup QB with those s**tty reserve O-Lines.

I mean once again the longer he plays the better he gets. Overall I think we have a good collection of QBs to contend for a championship

The fact that Sam with over 50 starts and being a top 3 pick overall as well is fighting to be the QB2 with Lance is more eye opening then, "Lance is a scrub" clearly he's not and just needs to play football…while the other has played a f**k ton of football and has been a "scrub" for half a decade.

Another clip. Good to an interview where he doesn't seemingly have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Nice to see him smile & relaxed a bit

Yeah, really great to see him perform well. The stupid media roasted the poor kid so bad. Mainstream Media is so bad nowadays. Trey's going to be on the 53 this year and I look forward to him getting EVEN BETTER!

Reports were Trey clearly looked better than Sam in training camp and practice.

Sam looked better in the first preseason game. I posted before that some coaches put more weight on practice than these preseason games for certain positions.

Trey looked better in the second preseason game.. went on two important drives to end the game. Put up better #s in one Qtr compared to the two of Sams.

Eitherway most of these snaps from both QBs are against backups.

Sam had some snaps against starters at the start of the game. Next week if Kyle get Trey out there, he might also face some starters with some of the starting Oline.

We'll see how next week goes.

But going into camp..
Trey was ahead by default as the #2.
Practiced well enough to hold the #2 spot. (Kyle keeps starting with him regarding rotation of playing time)

And we have these preseason games.

When you put it all together Sam would have to be clearly much better than Trey in practice and preseason. It doesn't seem like that is happening so far.

One could argue that Sam had the edge tonight because he was playing against 1s and 2s while Trey was playing against 3s. I don't put stock in that but Darnold certainly did nothing to hurt his case to stay in the running for the #2 slot. The pick was a dime that the receiver dropped.

All in all, tonight was a good night for all three QBs.

Agree 💯%, Solid work by ShanaLYnch to bolster the QB depth behind Purdy. Heck, finding Purdy was miraculous. I'd say almost equivalent to finding Garoppolo back in 2017. Kudo's to Kyle for just ignoring mainstream media and just focusing on getting Trey to be better than ever. Sam is a good backup QB. Even Sam can get better in this offense.

Yeah, and Latu didn't drop it! Both are getting better, just need more reps!

Still, it's a positive in my book. He'll learn from that rep and be more cautious about throwing those screens. You have to be so precise and anticipatory with screens. He needs to do a better acting job by looking downfield more before that screen pass. Lots of good stuff from Trey in this game and I really can see the improvement from the Raider game to the Bronco game. But for the finger and ankle injury, Trey might be where Brock is now. This fan base is too blessed to be stressed.

Huh, Trey actually got better with more playing time...imagine that.

Yeah, and so many folks were labeling him a bust. And, unfortunately, still do. The last half of his throws were better than his first half, same as the Raider game. Give this guy some more reps and he'll be right there with Brock. Two friggen talented QB's on the same team pushing each other to be better, only in San Franisco, does this happen.

no no no no... after tonight, Trey showed me where he belongs at the MOMENT.. that's with the 3rd stringers.. he really needs more time to develope..

Nah Mooony, he *dominated* the 3rd and 4th stringers.
Lance's last 2 drives only 2 under center and one was for a handoff (not including a few knealdowns for Moody's kick). I think Lance is more comfortable in shotgun.

Hardly anything to write home about considering the level of competition Trey faced in the 4Q.

Weirdly that wasn't the case in the second half last week. Those throws did look great though. Clear indication of improved accuracy.

Thanks, too many fans don't understand looking at the situation from a another perspective, aka The head coach. All they think about is "Trey will be good if he plays a ton". Well unless everyone gets hurt, he isn't going to play a ton. If someone is hurt, you hope Purdy is only out for a game or so, not a season. So you have to look at it like who's the best option to win you some critical games while your main guy comes back. Lance finally had two good drives, great im happy for him, but he also has a ton of bad plays tonight. We don't know what to expect from him. We have tons of film on Sam to know what situations to keep him out of and what situations he does really well in - if I'm a coach, I can gameplan and work with that. Especially since he's been accurate & decisive, when he's had time. He hasn't turned the ball over (where it's his fault) In preseason or much in camp.

Trey showed promise tonight but hasn't shown nearly enough for a coach to feel comfortable if he is trying to win a championship and needs a few critical games won.

More reps will even out that inconsistency. Inconsistency is caused by inexperience in what he's seeing. The more exposure to the different fronts, coverages, blitzes, and defensive tricks, the better (over time) he'll get in pre-snap and post-snap reads. He's *rapidly* improving for every rep. It's frankly astonishing. I think but for finding Purdy and Trey's injuries, he'd be QB1 today.

Going forward, Kyle has possibly a great problem in the future - what if he has *two* franchise QB's on his team? It will be interesting how he'll handle that. Gone are the days you can have Joe and Steve on your team long term, you have to let one or the other go. Joe or Steve? Tough decision to make.

Why? Because he had a good couple of series against 3rd and 4th stringers?

You all were praising Darnold last week for doing the same. Funny how that works. The complete double standards. You guys were angry about Treys sacks but it's completely ok when Darnold gets sacked.

Correct.

Bro, he's been solid in both of his preseason performances. He's a backup. This is a good thing. Hopefully Trey builds on his strong finish. This is also a good thing.

Root for the front of the jersey.

Bro, we all have our favorites and I can't root for Sam Darnold.

Bruh don't be like those Trey haters who criticize Trey for doing good against third stringers but praise Sam for doing good against third stringers the previous game.

Sam wears a gold helmet. Root for him.

Agree 💯%, and that's a big concern for me personally as Kyle's been just a hair short of super bowl wins but for injuries. Brock's been injured but so has Trey. Again, tough decision to see who is more durable. This year should help determine that. It's going to be another long grueling season, hopefully with a better ending than last year. Availability is also ability.
