And yet a rookie QB drafted in the 4th rd played just as well. Mac got booed by his fans. towards the end of his rookie yr teams started figuring out his limitations.

People want to blame whomever besides him. Acting like he doesn't have the goat HC they're making the decisions.

We'll see. I personally don't give an eff how he does. Lol he isn't a 49er. He also seems like a douche, personality wise.

But I still think he got a raw deal last year and handled it very poorly. If he has a good head on his shoulders like Brock/Trey, I bet he would of navigated it much better.

Lol your last paragraph is funny to me. I feel the same way with lance - he has tons of talent around him, great coaching, great system. Etc no reason to play as poorly as he does/has. Yet the excuse is always the play calling, he doesn't have X player, weather, etc - just everything but lance.

I just can't see any professional player wanting to work with Mac.

The dude is a man child.

That matters, a leader needs to have the locker room.

I wanted Mac, I watched every game his rookie season, by year two I was so over the dudes personality ..... I am just so glad the dude is not a 49er. Trey Lance is 12,000 times easier to root for.

You could argue none of the "3" options for the 49ers are worth what was paid, but at least they got the easiest dude to root for.

All I ever wanted was for him to have a legit chance to fail….if people think 170 random passing attempts and a whatever preseason game was a legit chance to fail. That's fine, I'll disagree but it doesn't matter what any of us think.

At the end of the day, injuries boned lance - not opportunities. Which is just unfortunate.

i think the team underestimated how raw he really was. Him not getting any playing time has hurt his growth dramatically. He's arguably the rawest qb to ever be taken that high and he was put on a team that needs to win now, which never made sense to me. So many people undervalued what Jimmy did here and assumed lance could do it no problem, which was a mistake.

it's not over yet, lance could have a really good performance next game. He could end up playing this year and looking much better - who knows. It's looking bleak now but it's not over.
Not just the team, but a lot of us fans did too. I knew he was green, and needed a couple of years to improve. Injuries might have cost him his chance here, which is unfortunate. Not that the line gave him much chance yesterday (can't stress this enough), but he looked kind of lost out there. It's disappointing as a fan of the team, but it is what it is. Hopefully he can improve next time out, but he looked really lost yesterday. Indecisive and hesitant to act the few times he did have a few seconds to act.

I think that bottom point is probably the reality. To me you can't spend 3 1st round picks on anything other than a Luck, Elway, Manning prospect. It's enough capital to get a MVP level player.

Oh I don't care. He was never gonna be the answer. Brock is way better.

He's had Kittle once. He's never had CMC. He's had 3 full games lol. People act like he's played seasons of football, which isn't even close to accurate. So you're telling me weather never plays a part in a football game? Like Deebo fumbling in the RZ, Jennings falling on what was a great pass and fell because of the down pouring? Or Trent getting smoked by a day 3 rookie for a sack? I mean those aren't excuses that s**t is a fact. Doesn't negate every bad thing….he's got s**t to work on no doubt.

I mean no one has talked about this being his first real football since he broke his ankle in half.

I've always viewed him as a game manager. It's what he's always been his whole high school and college career, he's never been a play maker or someone that elevated everyone around him. His college team was 23-0 and previous national champs when he took over. They had won like 9 out of 12 of the last national championships - they didn't win BECAUSE of Trey. He was just a really good game manager for him. He never even ran a 2 minute drill in college.

when the arguments about his play are constantly "the o line needs to play better", "he needs better players around him", "he needs the weather to be a nice clear day". Etc etc - if everything has to be perfect for him to play well all the time, then he's a game manager. Which is fine, it is what it is, but his trade value is diminished for a reason. We just need to accept it.
Was that a real quote from Shanahan about purdy being their best qb?

Most were pretty reserved on their critique of Trey. Just stating the obvious that he is not in competition with Brock.

edit: I don't know why it's sad that people are reacting to the tape Trey put out

I also think it's one of the most interesting story lines of the preseason… featuring one of the largest brands in the NFL. It's not personal vendettas against Trey.

Yeah it's got lots of intrigue for sure. The last pick in the draft Vs one of if not the most expensive draft capital picks of all time

I mean he called him the real deal…maybe he is. Hope so. Sounds like he's gonna get every chance to prove it.

None of it is personal. This is pro football, and it's a question of, can you play? Can you help this team, win games? The tape from ARZ, CHI, and now this one, has been hard to watch. Ugly games. I mean Aiden O'Connell, a 4th round rook, just came in and played a near perfect game. He was 15 of 18 with 2 drops. That's darn near 100%. The only one who can flip the narrative on Lance, is Lance. He had a great opportunity yesterday and didn't capitalize on it. Another opportunity on the way with how he prax this week, then Denver.
