I really don't think his reports are to be trusted in the way I'm describing. First of all I don't think he's a particularly great football analyst and second of all he's a team mouthpiece. Seemingly a great guy and a good beat writer, but I'm not hanging on his opinions personally…. especially without seeing the evidence myself.

My guess is that darnold starts next game (Trey and darnold flip roles to even out the reps). Trey looked pretty bad last pre season too. Let's give him another game to see how he looks, no reason to freak out, but I think it's hurt him in the competition for QB2. I'd say it's in favor of darnold right now. That can change though.

Agree, too soon to make any conclusions other than Trey needs to play better and that he was rusty. Too soon. Let the preseason games play out in their entirety before even making a final decision. Even then, I still think Trey will improve as the season goes on. Steve Sucked before he had the Sesss. Suck-Sess. I'll see myself out.

Cite the Ryan G Hensley's, Grant Cohn's, Jessie Naylor's and on and on at your own peril, lol.

Maiocco talks out of his ass. He's made a bunch of statements that make no sense. I'm done listening to anyone observing at training camp. I'll use my own eyes and base the reality on how the coaches put the roster and depth chart together thanks.

I mean, he really.gave me hope with this crap, only to lead to ultimate disappointment when i actually watched him.

To some people, We really won't know what we had in Lance until he gets a chance to play with Jerry Rice.

Meanwhile, Purdy plays with nobodys last year in preseason at the end of game. He barely gets any snaps yet impressed his fellow players and the coaches. It was covered by Breer today even.

Lance is a good kid and it was great to hear he improved some but yesterday showed not enough. Hope he improves some over the next month to get someone to trade for him. Like i've said before, then he can get all the snaps and grow with a team. He doesn't fit here and our timeline. Darnold looked so much better Sun.

Poor Trey, he buckled. Quite a bit of pressure when Brock comes out of the gate like a bull & takes us straight to the NFC champ game. But no excuses, he's gotta be able to handle it. I feel for him, at one point when I was recording the game, I thought I lip read Brock say to Lance, "You doing alright?" With a quick yes nod from Trey. Idk. Was really hoping the best for him, hopefully, he will do better next game:) Maybe he will play with a chip and just go balls out who knows..(trying to be positive) lol
No one will ever be able to convince me that football gets harder as you move down the depth chart. No one will be able to convince me that college is harder than the NFL and one will be able to convince me that off brand football leagues are more difficult because Deebo, CMC, or Trent Williams isn't there to help.

Maybe some, but others probably would've been brought down to earth having hard evidence staring them in the face. The hard evidence yesterday -- while the OL definitely didn't help -- was still that Lance was so much worse than I think almost anyone else expected.

I thought, even if he struggled, it wouldn't look this bad. We will see Saturday. His first game back maybe it was a fluke. If he looks like this again though, he's gonna lose all benefit of the doubt from 99% of this board, myself included.

Brock is by far the best QB on this team, and reports seem to have ASTRONOMICALLY exaggerated Trey's improvement.

So has every single reporter been lying? Even the raiders guys from this week? That's a pretty wild take imo,

overall everyone played awful imo. You can tell kyle doesn't give a s**t about preseason games.

honestly even if lance played well, those same people would have downplayed every single thing.

I don't know think lying is the right word lol, so that's why I said exaggerating. I gotta see another game ASAP. What I saw made no sense.
Cohn sure is silent today, must be drowning in salty tears and pounding Prozac... see what kind of excuse drivel video he posts today... "but but but the big screen tv in middle of the field was reflecting glare in his eyes"

Dude was absolutely on one yesterday, even for him. Another guy who feels like his approval is more akin to a kiss of death considering how habitually wrong he is. Good for a laugh once in a while.

I think Lance will have a great game against Denver and this whole debate will spin 180 degrees again.

I hope he does!

I also think Purdy will come out for a series or two and look… meh… and people will really start jumping from the windows 😂

I also also think we are going to have a great season and this is all just preseason noise.

Papa on KNBR is and has been saying that Darnold is going to be our QB2. Trey probably QB3 and get to suit up under the new nfl rules.

OMG 4 games you say? How many did lance have kittle and CMC for? One and zero lol.

I guess TOs and talent doesn't matter for an offense my bad. Lance should totally tear it up with Jason Poe Moore and whoever else is protecting him. Chris Conley and some no name guys…they should all be on the same page without a doubt.

I guess TC practices don't matter either.

To be fair, you expect the last pick in the draft to need help....

You don't expect to have a top 5 draft QB to need a perfect sitiation to be functional. You expect the elite traits they have to make those around him better.

The one thing about GP is he's a huge Darnold homer going back to USC. He can be a little skewed in that way.

That said, I think people should prep for Sam to be QB2. I've thought he would be but the unknown variable was how much progress Trey made coming in… doesn't seem like a lot so far.

lol some people just can't admit to being wrong.

I'm not saying he's wrong, but he's holding on tighter than anyone else. I admire his tenacity.
