Los Angeles Chargers QB Trey Lance Thread

NYN, you know I'm a big Trey defender, and I get that it's just one game, but at no point did he do anything to give me confidence. I was not expecting what I saw. I sincerely hope it's just rust and getting comfortable and getting past jitters because of the horrific injury. But to me? While limited sample size of one game, it's all I have to go off of. He does not look anything like practice reports indicated. He doesn't look ready at all. Guy looks like QB3 at best.

He definitely will have a chance to prove the game was just a fluke. I'm rooting for him. But if the Trey from yesterday is what he looks like the rest of the preseason, he might not even be QB3 at that point.

Honestly, Trey Lance should get the start again vs Denver.

Let's not pretend Brock Purdy wasn't cooking in the preseason last year with scrubs around him.

Pretty sure non of those players were out there on the Raiders team.

Like Lance at NDSU. He was never needed to do much besides hand it off, run over some future accountant and every now and then, actually throw the football. And it shows.

Three years in and he doesn't look one bit more comfortable running the offense then he did as a rookie. At some point the excuses are going to run thin and he and his training wheels will need to go to some other place where he can work things out over time.

Maybe he can have a Geno Smith resurgence down the road but it's very unlikely to be on this team. Unless he has some surprise epiphany, I think he's done here after this season.

Okay? So all the reports in TC with Lance were just made up? Like Kyle stated the practices matter more to him and the team.

So you agree Brock has been gifted a juggernaut both on offense and defense. Thanks for that. People acting like being given 20 TOs in 8 games doesn't help with producing points.

look I'm not saying brock blows or hasn't exceeded expectations. I'll root for him as long as he's here. Overall I'll be optimistic, I will also expect some sort of regression.

I agree lance won't get a fair shake here. A ton of fans made that so right off the bat and imo kyle did him no favors. Imo kyle has no issue moving on from any QB in the blink of an eye…he's got the Gruden in him.

Phoenix, that's it exactly, that bold, and it's kind of the issue. Him maybe being a guy after 30 starts, simply does nothing for the 49ers. BP is our QB1, and I am seeing Sam as QB2. I don't think QB2 is yet decided, I just see Sam as a good one, in my opinion. So the road to a single start is murky at best. We have decisions to make here. I am seeing a possible trade as in the best interest of the 49ers, and TL. If he is QB3 here and his path is blocked, what's the point for us or him?

No he shouldn't. We've got to do our best to get the guy who's actually going to back up Brock ready. It's about the team, not Trey.

You earn playing time. The converse is also true. Please, this is sports, not woke.

No one gave me any confidence from the practices all the way to the preseason game. None of the QBs were good all week. Our depth at OL is 💩 our band new kicker can't do the one thing he has to do. Our defense got ran over by all people, Jimmy G and the backups couldn't stop the run and let the s**t Raiders put up 34 pts.

maybe none of it matters because it's the preseason…you damn well know if lance played well the same people that have been thirsting for bad play from him would have chalked it up to the preseason and it doesn't matter.

First Brock is good QB in a league with bad QBs...and he has the potential to be great.

That being said that example has him going up against the 3rd to 4th strings in the 4th QTR.

Trey was playing in the first qtr and going up against some vets.

That also being said, I think Brock would have still hit the right spots if he played as a rookie against those Raiders yesturday.

Again the only question is what are their ceilings? Do their ceilings matter with the amount of talent we have on the team? Will it matter a few years down the road if we lose some of our talent?

Seriously, where are you getting 5 seconds from?? lol

How about you count maybe Neither of those last two plays are pressures given how long he had the ball. Not saying any of them were bad plays, love they he made something with all of them.

Lol, notice if it's a two step drop the kid has his read and throw already. If he has a defender in his face he's still looking to make the play. Again where are you getting five seconds from??

You're nitpicking is getting old, I post a video of his highlights and what do you do??? You do your best to nitpick at anything like supporting cast and time to throw. Purdy is not suppose to succeed in the NFL, do you need a reminder he was the last pick in the draft?? The kid is a gamer, a leader and he's got that fire, he's that guy.
Granted it's only the first preseason game after a long layoff, so you have to make allowances. However, we gave away the farm for Lance! And then some! And he looked terrible. Took way too long in his decision making; inaccurate: no where near as elusive as advertised; took sacks when he needn't have. Darnold, on the other hand, looked like a real find. What were Shanny and Lynch thinking on Lance!? He looked like the 4th best QB on the team.

But, but... intangibles, high ceiling, arm talent...
