lol you cry so much. Brock performed last year with scrubs

That's my QB.

so much more comfortable out there

Watching Trey yesterday made me appreciate Brock much more.

Brock was obviously amazing last season, as he continued to impressed, it got to the point that I forgot he was a rookie QB. He wasn't supposed to be anywhere as polished as he looked. I kind of forgot about that and took his amazing performance as given.

Let's not pretend Brock Purdy wasn't cooking in the preseason last year with scrubs around him.

Do you have anything besides just the highlights?

We would post lowlights but they're almost non-existent!!!!

I posted a clip of a bunch of missed throws that someone put on Twitter and boy did ya'll have a conniption over it.

Again do you have all his throws from the preseason? Hero himself said he does look at highlight, yet that's what he gave me

Nevermind that there were defenders in his face. Did you count to five with your eyes close??

WTF are you talking about. Those last two plays he had 5 secs before he even had to throw the ball away or make a play.

Seriously, where are you getting 5 seconds from?? lol

Welp, I re-watched all the Trey Lance passes. First couple of series he was RUSty! Yuk. Yeah he didn't have the greatest OLine protection either. But the latter throws were pretty good. Clearly he needs more reps, but as QB2 he's not going to get starter reps that he needs to progress faster. His progress will be slow - but there has been progress that I can see. I think the latter half of the passes he threw were more of a realistic place where he is right now versus the first couple of passes. He did progress and settle down, after those first couple of sacks.

Criticisms - he's still taking too much time reading the defenses. That needs to improve. He doesn't have the short area burst that Brock has to get away from defenders. Those short passes are still getting away from him.

Positives - better mechanics, when he does see the window - great arm to get it there, and good placement and accuracy to get it there. He eventually threw some completed short passes and he definitely has better touch that his first year on those short throws. When he correctly recognizes the pocket is collapsing, he does have the mobility to move out and throw on the run.

I wouldn't put much stock in his first game performance after being injured, and he is still raw as heck for his career. He's only played 4+ games in his entire career in the NFL. If he stays healthy and continues to improve, like in the latter half of his throws - he'll be good. I'll want to see more improvement in his second game. I want him to start off strong in his second game next week. Hopefully I'll see less of the deer in the headlights stuff. If his mental side improves, we'll have a good QB. If not, obviously, he won't be here long.

Good points. He looked better as the game went on so that's a trend that continued, and a good sign for a young QB. Watching it live yesterday, I forgot that he isn't going to flip a switch and be accustomed to game speed, even if it was second string defense game speed. He needed to reacquaint himself to facing live bullets and although it took three drives, it did look better towards the end of the first half. He'll need to take baby steps.

I was hoping the rust wasn't going to be so apparent, but it was there unfortunately. Also Kyle was overconfident in Trey being able to pass against a raider defense geared to stopping the pass. Raiders opened up in pass defense, and I think Kyle will hopefully open up the next preseason game with more runs to help Trey settle down and to help the Denver defense settle down. He is just reading the defenses a smidge late, and unfortunately the only way I know how to speed that up is with more reps, which he won't get because of Purdy. Which is OK, Purdy is very clearly QB1 after yesterday's game.

It will be interesting to see how we approach next week's game. Will Brock play? How will the playcalling be for him and who will be out there with him? Will QB2 be Darnold or Trey? If it's Darnold what will the playcalling be like?

As far as I know, Kyle will probably want Brock to play a series or two in that 2nd preseaon game -- at most, so that he can get ready for the all important 3rd preseason game. Personally, I'd rather have Trey play all the snaps vs Brock. Brock will play one half in the 3rd preseason game. No need to potentially get him in danger of some stupid preseason injury if you can help it. Kyle's offense is *still* going to suck on opening day, just as it always does. It's not till later in the season that the offense starts rounding into playoff shape. So whether Brock plays in the preseason or not, it won't make a big difference on opening day. Oline will suck, QB will suck, Wr's will suck. If we're lucky against the steelers - we might win the game.

Like Lance at NDSU. He was never needed to do much besides hand it off, run over some future accountant and every now and then, actually throw the football. And it shows.

Three years in and he doesn't look one bit more comfortable running the offense then he did as a rookie. At some point the excuses are going to run thin and he and his training wheels will need to go to some other place where he can work things out over time.

Maybe he can have a Geno Smith resurgence down the road but it's very unlikely to be on this team. Unless he has some surprise epiphany, I think he's done here after this season.

Guys were a bit more open and he had a bit more time, but that's kind of irrelevant to me. Brock looked decisive and knew what he wanted to do with the ball, plain and simple.

Trey for most part looked atrocious yesterday, panicking under pressure, taking unnecessary sacks, double-pumping the ball and hesitating to let it fly -- and when he did, half the time or more it was a hideous throw.

Go ahead and post all of Purdy's bad throws if it makes you feel better about yourself.

I just posted his 7 game winning streak. Who the hell cares about a few bad throws after that!!!!

He looked like a scrub rookie out there.

How about you count maybe Neither of those last two plays are pressures given how long he had the ball. Not saying any of them were bad plays, love they he made something with all of them.

I have a question that someone may be able to answer for me. Why doesn't the NFL have a monor league system where they can develop players an send them down until they're ready?

The NFL makes more money than any of the other leagues yet MLB, NHL and the NBA all have some type of developmental league. Given the recent trend of drafting "green" QBs it would make sense for them to spend the money to develop players rather than putting them in situations where they either have no talent around them or are expected to win right away. I'm not just talking about Trey's situation which is an extreme example. Fields, Jackson, Wilson quickly come to mind. There hav ebeen several more. This year they have a couple more tht are very inexperienced.

If they're going to invest a lot of draft capital on these guy they need to give them a realistic chance. So many first round QB fail and either disappear or spend their career bouncing from one team t another as a backup.

They do. It is called college football.

Somewhat, but TL is an example here. He basically declared after his freshman year. It went redshirt, freshman year, covid year, NFL draft. That's not a lot of football.

Without guaranteed contracts the NFL will never have a development league. Too much of an injury risk. I think the USFL and the other league they have is the equavalint to a development league.

Trey' s situation is just so unique. With hindsight being 50/50 he should have transferred to a college team that played during covid and then come out if he was ready.

If it wasn't for Brock Purdy, Trey would be the starter this year and would be getting all the first team reps in practice.

The USFL is different. Each team doesn't have a club that they can send players down to and then bring them up. The injuries are always a factor but I think most young players that get cut would prefer taking their chances on a minor league team instead of trying to find a job in the real world. Players get released fr a lot of reasons but a common one is there just isn't an open roster spot. That's where a true minor league system would be nice.

They've used college for years as their minor leagues but the problem there is the imbalance between teams. You have about 8 or 10 teams that are elite with another 10 that are competitive. The rest are cannon fodder for the big guys. Trey a great example here as well. NDSU is and has been so much better than most of the schools they play that it's hard to really evaluate the players. You really are going on potential when you take players from a program like that. QBs from Alabama and Ohio State don't always do nearly as well in the NFL because their college teams were so stocked with talent that they often look much better than they are.
