Seemed alot of play action calls before even establishing the run...defense were all over the offense. Didn't fall for the roll out.

That approach with backup offensive personnel.

I would agree. I don't think there is any befit to playing darnold too much at this point.

On this subject, are we doing this cuz it's best for TL or cuz it's best for the team?

I would only do this, if we think it's best for the team. Does TL have a future here? What does that future look like? I am having a hard time seeing it. We have a nice QB1, and nice backup options, without TL. Can he get past Sam and Allen?
This may be random, but in defense of TL, I don't know if I like the short quick game, that KS had on early in the game yesterday. That is not Trey's strength. I would have liked more play action, deep drop, use your arm talent stuff, also use your mobility. It's like KS was trying to ram a square peg, into a round hole. It's almost like TL needs a dif offense, or playcalls, than what we or KS likes to run. Does anyone else agree? Trey's strengths are not the same as Brock's.

There was a bunch of play actions, but Trey never pulled the trigger. Probably because we hadn't established a run game up to that point.

Yeah but go back to the very first play, it's quick lil short game stuff. It's not what he is good at, and he kinda got off on the wrong foot on that play, and downhill from there.

I have no problem calling all the short game stuff. That's where he needs live reps at, and where he needs the most improvement.
I was so incredibly disappointed with what I was watching I turned the game off early, which hasn't happened since I don't know when.

But to utilize more play action shouldn't the run be established more?? I don't think Shanahan was worried about establishing the run, it seemed he was more interested in evaluating how Lance would look in the pocket or passing situations.

This. If Trey has any future with us, he needs to be able to run our offense.

I'm way more disappointed with his play, and the play of the OL, than I am the preseason play calling.

Maybe you need to look at your own exceptions for a guy who hast played meaningful football since September.
First quick pass play, Trey did the right thing and took a sack. DB was sitting on it ready to jump the route.

Second quick pass play, Trey hesitated to hit the TE, in-between two defenders. He did have a WR running deep behind them for a huge gain. I wonder if that caught his attention. Eitherway he should have hit the TE to hopefully extend the drive and try again.

Maybe. I just feel if he got off to a better start, got a lil confidence, maybe it's a whole dif outing. That first play, the progression is wide to his right, he could have thrown it, but defender was on it a bit, would have been a bit of a tricky throw. He gets his head around, seemingly to spot the wide open Bell, and the ball doesn't come out. He kind of double clutched, and ate the sack. I think he wanted Bell, but he didn't get it out quick enough, or trust what he was seeing, until it was too late. Sometimes you eat a bad sack on the first play, after seeing an open guy, and maybe he had a hard time flushing that and moving on. I don't know.

Yeah I don't think my expectations were that high... at all. I wasn't mad at the first sack, because like someone said, it probably would have been picked.

Trey has to be better and he knows it.
I said this yesterday and want to reiterate. Its clear that the game hasnt slowed down for him yet. I think the more and more he plays, the more it will. You could already see improvement in the 2nd quarter from the 1st.

Will Trey ever get the playing time needed to develop here? Probably not....or dare I say hopefully not? Regardless, my opinion on him hasnt changed a bit after yesterday. I still have no idea if he is going to be good or not. And honestly, no one else on this board does either.
