Agreed. I was joking about how passer rating is a massively flawed way of judging qb play (even though a larger sample would be better.). People love the stat.

Virtually any rating system is going to give undue credit on some TDs. Inevitable.

And I really havent seen anyone loving the rating in this thread or in the QB forums in general. It's only brought up in defense of mediocre observation, really. That system pretty much went extinct a couple decades ago.

No, it didn't lol. Over the course of a few games or the season, it's a great stat for passing efficiency. But with any stat, it can sometimes not tell the story within a small sample size.

Yes it did. Please link me to the last legit discussion here involving Passer Rating. Go ahead....I'll wait.
No one in the know cares about that old calculation,...lol.

We'll look at other stuff. As the evidence shows it's far outdated.

Give me a bunch of other metrics and mention where someone ranks in passer rating I guess. I'll take that.

Don't give me the number individually,...especially for a game or a half. It doesn't mean sh** in that context. Come on,....show your IQ prowess here.

3rd rounder? Deal.
As much as I want Lance to pan out, look no further then how much better Aidan O'Connell looked in comparison to him.

Your "proof" that passer rating is "dead" is a picture showing passer rating going up over time? Lol stop. Duh. Rules have changed numerous times in favor of QB's and offensive production overall.

Link to a discussion about passer rating? What are you talking about, dude? So weird.

Yea. Are QBs really 42% better than they ever were? When you cite rule changes you are making my argument for me for why the damn thing is broken.

Dont cite it individually,...especially for a few quarters of football. It means next to nothing. Please learn how to use numbers,...it's not too late for you.

If we want to talk QB efficiency,...we're going to use much more up-to-date metrics than passer rating.

It's not weird at all,....you just have no legit reply.

Being more "safe" and "conservative" doesn't mean your play as a QB is better than a QB that's going to test all the areas of the field and change the way the defense plays. This isin't hard,..lol.

It's a team stat that should be used as a starting point reference to dig deeper. Nothing further. It does not do an adequate job of illustrating how a QB is actually playing, though again larger samples are better.

There has to be some level of credible film analysis to have an idea what's going on. Stats can't replace it and especially passer rating.
Not a good day. Ya the OL was bad but he's going against backups he needs to be able to still put some good plays together and improvise.

Probably first game jitters from a horrific injury but yea...down close to our end zone I felt like he took a sack that didnt need to be a sack. Gotta get it out there or scan back to your right.

How does passer rating account for that, btw? Furlow?
I'm sorry but I gotta be honest, it's ugly!

Rule changes don't mean the stat is broken. Passing yards and TD's are up as well, does that mean they "went extinct two decades ago?"

I'm not gonna say Trey Lance had a bad day, his O-line made him look worse than it really was. It seemed as if Kyle wanted to show case Lance's passing and the defense knew it. I think if they opened up with the run and used play-action more it would've got Lance more into a rhythm and maybe could've found his groove. But whatever it's just one preseason game.

Purdy - Undisputed starter
Darnold - QB2
Trey - QB3, but Allen will give him a run for his money
Easily the 4th best QB on the roster. Hopefully he gets it together quick, but after seeing how O'Connell played in his first game compared to how Trey did with 3 off seasons under his belt is pretty discouraging. I feel like if we were going to see it from Trey, we would have seen it by now.

I'm referring to the rating IN RELATION TO (this is the key part you're not grasping) the QB's performance.

Did you know that only 4 metrics even factor into passer rating to begin with? Completion %, YPA, TD%, and INT%. That's it.

With all the data we have and can gauge today,....this ain't enough if we want to judge a QB's play. We need more.

I think someone said Trey's rating for the game was almost 113. Lol what are you not getting here?

We want to compare QB play? I need more than a passer rating. Not nearly enough,...especially today.
