Like I said, NFL can be a quick and cold business. I have no idea what is fair. I just know you gotta show out when you have a chance. Eminem wrote about this lol..

Trey Sermon is an example. Dude got hurt his first carry, and had some struggles, that was over, real fast. Naturally a huge difference in investment with TL, but clock is ticking. August is a big month, I hope he looks like a star Sunday. Would be a blessing to have a bunch of high end QBs.

So if Sam plays poorly and Lance well competition done since one took advantage and one didn't.

I think Sam's poor play yeah it cost him big time. He probably is out over $100m. If he played really well on the rook deal, vs now. Geno got $100m so did D Jones. So you don't have to be super elite, just a solid starter QB. And he was given a lot of games, and didn't demonstrate it. So now he's a backup. Like TL. BP got just a brief window, and really capitalized. I am excited for Sunday we get a glimpse if Sam and TL are ready to capitalize, this is their next opportunity to show their stuff. I hope we have the problem of too many good QBs. I absolutely think if TL makes more of the comp than Sam, he should get this QB2 job. No doubt about it.

Haven't heard anything. But hope he plays the whole first half.

Would not be surprised if he plays 1st quarter and Sam 2nd.

"It's not set in stone," Shanahan said Friday on KNBR's "Tolbert & Copes" show. "It can always change. But right now, we're trying to plan on giving Trey most of the first half and Sam most of the second half. We wanted to balance it out that way.

"I rarely play starters in Week 1 (of the preseason). I have before. It usually depends on how those two practices go (the 49ers and Raiders held joint practices on Thursday and Friday). And we had two real hard practices that we were real happy with.

"So I don't plan on playing many starters, so we'll have a couple of groups in there. But we've got enough guys that can go out there and hopefully make some plays for both quarterbacks."

Idk. I don't see Allen playing the entire 2nd half.

So about the video clip I linked.. Jack and Krueger basically say that who ever has been going to these practices know that Trey has been the better performer out of him and Sam. Like as if it is very obvious.

So it makes me wonder...who or what is the incentive of making the competition seem closer than it is?

Is the 9ers FO trying up Sam's stock for a potential trade?

Is it other teams getting in the ear of the national media to try to somehow lower Trey's trade value? That seem ridiculous.

Is it just beneficial for the 9ers if the perception is that both are doing "well"... that they seem to be having a close competition?

Why do you trust Jack and Krueger over other reporters?

LOL that's been a consistent message from every reporter covering the team this camp. And both of those guys were definitely not Trey fanboys. If anything them saying that makes it more honest.
Trey will play first half. Sam will play third quarter and the start of the fourth. Allen will play the last 8 minutes. Trey will get 30 minutes, Sam 18 minutes and Brandon 12 minutes
Excited for Sunday! Let's go Trey & the 49ers!

4. He's a guy with 300 college passing attempts. This was and is a SB caliber roster, you don't bring in an inexperienced QB from the FCS who barely ever threw the football and is going to need a s**tload of development when you're trying to win a championship.

We have no idea how much work Lance is actually going to need and how many starts he would require to be even an average NFL starter, let alone a star. To a lot of people inside the fanbase and just about everyone outside of it, it was a head scratching move at best when you consider the opportunity cost of all they missed out on.

You do, actually, if you're the HC and it's your vision. You've earned the clout by building that SB caliber roster to begin with,...it wasn't handed to you. So you take the risks you want.

I've said it before,...You can't highlight the gambles you so choose to criticize and claim the decision-maker "can't" do such. We are in the high position we are in to begin with due to many gambles.

Micromanagement of draft picks just doesn't fly. How are they doing overall, with all of the drafts? These guys as a staff obviously know what they're doing....and it doesn't at all involve conservatism when it comes to draft day.

Maybe you noticed he got hurt

"Oh Yea."

Is it me, or are we going over the same exact story lines day after day here?

We might as well make a thread for each one. This is where the "Trey Lance" thread with no other threads allowed hampers the board.

I'd imagine many come here expecting to see or hear the latest about how he's doing,....only to be inundated with the same exact 1-liners over and over (see the 2 above).

By all means, speak your mind. But how about we finish out the topics with rational discussion instead of reintroducing them day after day? Just a thought.

SWH, you are missing the forest, for the trees here. The point was you have to ball, when called upon. That's the entire point. BP did (in a huge way). It's the entire reason he's QB1, and TL isn't, in my view. NFL is a real quick and can be cold business. I didn't bring up JG. You did.

So if a player doesn't ball when given let's say 50 or so opportunities it's fair to believe they aren't likely to be a qb1 themselves?

Like I said, NFL can be a quick and cold business. I have no idea what is fair. I just know you gotta show out when you have a chance. Eminem wrote about this lol..

This exchange is hilarious.

Now we're comparing RB to QB? Trey Lance was one of the youngest QBs to enter the league and easily one of the least experienced ones to enter the league. You pretending he should've been pushed aside because he didn't seize his opportunity right away is hilarious.

QB is the toughest position to play and evaluate in sports. When you add the things that happened to Trey in his starts on top of it it makes his evaluation even tougher. Saying Brock took advantage of his opportunity is fair but to blindly make the comparison to Trey and say he didn't when the conditions the two played in were so drastically different is just crazy.

Also SWH was simply pointing out how hypocritical the logic you guys use is. Apparently with Trey something is a major flaw that doesn't sit well with you but with Jimmy or Brock or even Darnold for some reason it's a non issue.

Jimmy was 26 years old when he seized his opportunity in 2017 btw. Think Lance will be the same QB he was at 21/22 as he will be when he's 26?

Do we believe if Brock was forced to start week 1 last year he would've seized his opportunity the same way?
