i would love for Lance to get a fair chance before they crown Purdy who throws picks after picks.

Trey was given the QB1 role with no competition last season so he had his chances. He just didn't capitalized, unlike Brock.

this is an often overlooked point, when your number is called, you have to ball. You can't go 5 qtrs, with zero TDs. So that opened it up for BP, and BP was on fire the whole year. NFL = not for long. TL has chances still, but he has to play well. Let's see a new an improved TL in preseason, he can make the whole league take notice if he is out there throwing lasers on Sunday, lighting it up. 3-4 real darn good QBs, would be a good prob to have

Sure if you live in a land where every game is the same you can compare people like that.

That's not how it works. We will never know how Brock would've done week 1 vs Chicago but I doubt he would've looked like the guy we saw since the Dolphins game. Just like I would bet lots of money that had Trey not gotten hurt vs Seattle week 2, you'd see a much better player by the Dolphins game with Trey.

Given how our backup OL has looked in camp and even against the Raiders, I doubt any of the backup QBs will be lighting it up on Sunday but we'll certainly see how Trey looks when he's got time in the pocket or how he's handling the pressure when it comes.

Maybe you noticed he got hurt

Since the moment Trey got hurt, there has been a pretty consistent effort by some here to reframe it as him being benched.

I don't know how anyone can live in a land in which people can conclude Trey's regular season/playoff performance has been anywhere near as impressive as Brock.

It hasn't, and the variables are always a tad different. Waiting for the variables to be the exact same, you are gonna be waiting forever. You can face the exact same squad, a week later, and it's a dif gameplan, dif weather, dif pregame meal, certain guys may not be avail, etc.

TL had some BS variables, like weather his first start. But so did BP. He broke his dang rib, his first start. It's about overcoming the BS dealt your way, and there is always BS dealt your way. Someone is gonna not get blocked. Someone is gonna drop a pass. as they say.. Now what? Looking for a guy to overcome all that. So I want to see some plays where it is not pitch perfect, and TL still overcomes, makes the play, on Sunday.

You would think if you get benched, you get the QB2 role. Nope, he has to compete for the QB2 role.

It does seem like he is winning the competition for QB2 role, so that is good.

We can call it whatever we want but the fact of the matter is Purdy happened.

Yeah, I'm a Trey guy but Purdy earned the QB1 role to start the season. How long is the leash, remains to be seen.

Huh?

13/4 Td/Int is good as is a 2.4 int %.

It's an often overlooked point, because its a stupid one. Jimmy G has gone 5 quarters without a touchdown multiple times in his 49er tenure, including last season. Didnt hear you say that "you cant do that" when it came to him. This is also ignoring the fact that 4 of the 5 quarters, Trey played in the rain.

Well, no one is doing that.....so posting it is pointless.

If that 5 quarters happen to be the only action for the whole last season, then that would be a bigger concern for fans. And if the player doesn't have much of other good game performance in the NFL, then that would make it even worse. So I don't think comparing that to Jimmy G makes any sense whatsoever.

The poster said "you cant go 5 qtrs, with zero TDs." Many QBs have done that, including the guy who he has made excuses for, for years.

If you want to make this exclusive to Trey Lance, because he didnt play after that and didnt play much as a rookie, thats a you problem. And what you are doing is completely ignoring all context in order to come to that conclusion. Plenty of QBs have gone 5 quarters without a touchdown. It happens to everyone at times.

Its fine, though. Just say "I dont like Trey Lance" so it will save us all the time to interact with your biased takes.

Training camp >>>> than actual games.

Get with the program.

SWH, it was when your number is called, you have to ball. JG did, see 2017, and that is ancient history. Who know how his career goes, if he struggled in 2017, but that's another topic. If TL was playing like an All-Pro to start last season, this convo, is different in terms of QB1. Would you not agree?
