In that type of weather you'd be foolish to not go run heavy.

There was tension after the week 1 loss last season. They barely gave him much of a chance.

I imagine there was after you blew a game to the worst team in the league by missing some remedial s**t. NFL isn't always fair and I'm sure trey felt the pressure but that's what this league is. You either perform when you get a chance or you don't. If you don't, and someone else does, well....

and of course TL was given a pass in this game due to the "monsoon"... but somehow the weather didn't affect the play of Justin Fields who threw for 2 TDs and beat us

Against the Seahawks in week 2.

The game plan was working well against SEA. Part of why you draft Trey is so you can go run heavy. We should have won a Super Bowl in 2019 he we kept running. Same as in 2012 vs Baltimore. Running and defense is what took PHI to the Super Bowl as well

It is a winning formula and it is why 11 on 11 football is a preference of mine

The guy kyle and Lynch had so much conviction in they basically put their jobs on the line is splitting reps with one of the worst starting QBs the past yr. It's not like Lance has years worth of s**t film either.

Everyone including this coaching staff/FO said Lance NEEDS reps to get better, yet they continue to do the opposite?

And on top of it, Kyle is running around saying Sam can be Steve young and the only praise he's given Lance is "he's healthy" IMO it's a f**ked up situation, if I was a rookie QB I wouldn't want to come here ever. Love kyle, he's my HC… but I think he kinda sucks with the QB position and how he approaches developing it. I feel bad for Lance and our fan base loves s**tting on him for nothing he's done. He's done everything right, he's listen to his coaches, he's busting his ass trying to get better. He has all the intangibles and skill set to be a top end QB. Yet all he gets is hated on.

it's one thing to be critical of a QB after yrs of playing, just strait up hating on one because you didn't want to draft him and giving him zero chance to improve? Come on it's weak s**t imo.

kyle handed the keys to lance last offseason. Literally cast jimmy off to the side so there was NO QUESTION who the starter was.

Trey has 10000% absolutely had his opportunities

Thats because he had no choice. Based on his recent interview with Kawakami

"And he got that time going into his second year, and then he got hurt. Well, you look back to that training camp ... I really loved how our seventh-round draft pick (Brock Purdy) was playing. That didn't mean I was going to give him the reps Trey [deserved]."

I truly believe if Purdy and Lance had been drafted at the same spot, kyle would have appointed Purdy the starter last season. He only gave trey the starting job because his hands were tied.

My take was Kyle was scared to call pass plays for Trey. Let's agree to disagree.

Agreed. I noticed this from even preseason last year. Kyle's playcalling and sideline demeanor completely.changed with Brock in the game. Kyle has cousins type love for purdy. He was never too happy with Lance.

Did you feel the same about Jimmy? We ran all over GB in 2019 and I loved every minute of it and so did Jerry Rice because I have the GIF to prove it

I saw the ball moving and we were scoring vs SEA. From where I am from you run the ball until they prove they can stop it and then you set up play action.

I prefer 11 on 11 football and if you can make it work you can overwhelm the opposing defense as the game goes on.

PHI did it to us in the NFCCG and I know had we had Brock perhaps we could have kept drives going and had a chance but facts are PHI smash mouthed the heck outta our number one defense and mopped the floor with our a****!

Which is why it's a crime to make that draft trade we made in 2021

Two starts and then an injury? That's not much of an opportunity. Don't forget that one of those starts was in terrible weather where neither team could do much. A broken play where the Niners lost coverage that allowed Fields to complete a long pass was the big difference.

I think it's clear to everyone that as long as he's able to play well the job is Purdy's. Trey isn't going to get any big opportunities without Brock getting hurt or playing poorly. It's going to be another player that was drafted on potential but never got a real s**t at developing it. When you draft someone that's was that inexperienced you have to be ready to groom him. I don't think they did a very good job of that. The injury setbacks certainly didn't help.

Because we have a coach that's in win now mode this was probably not an ideal landing spot for Trey. For a veteran or an extreme outlier like Brock who had experience and could step right in and win right away it's a dream spot. I don't know any vet QB that couldn't step right in and win here at a high clip.

But a NOOB like Trey coming from D2 trying to come in and expect us to take our lumps with this crew in developing him was a mismatch from the start

I am no coach but I was against us moving up at the high cost we did to get any QB because we had Jimmy and a deep team with pick 12 and a ton of picks in general. Once we did move up I wanted Fields over Mac Jones because I thought Jimmy was better than Mac. I wanted Fields over Trey because Trey was D2 and not as athletic and not as accurate a passer and just not as talented

Once draft day came I was glad we got Trey as opposed to Mac but I thought we'd sit Trey for two years as a 20 year old and let Jimmy play out his deal while Trey got ready

I was OK if he started year two but I felt initially it would take two years to get him ready while not sacrificing winning

To go back. Why draft a guy at 3 when you have pick 12 and Jimmy G that you know you have to develop and then not see it through? I'm not sure we're a better team than we would have been had we kept Jimmy and the picks and we could have had Jimmy and Brock

Once we got Trey it makes no sense if we don't develop him so that's why I'll be patient and root for Brock while Trey is hopefully still being developed but Trey will have to take a pay cut at some point if we are rolling with Brock

Staying at #12 and taking the next JG was an option but Kyle and John must have seen something in Trey's film that made them take this gamble. It looks right now like it was a mistake but that happens. Every team has made mistakes with personnel and particularly at QB. It's just not easy to project. He was undoubtedly asked to take the reigns a little too soon. Injuries have pretty much set his development back 2 years. Those are 2 years he needed and it may eventually cost him any chance he had of becoming the QB they envisioned. Even if he had played every game the past 2 years he would still have less game action than Purdy. (counting college)

This could have been handled differently but we need to keep in mind that Kyle hasn't had a lot of experience since he's been HC at developing a raw QB. JG had 3 years at NE and far more starts in college. He may be more comfortable with a QB that has more experience. I suppose most coaches would be.

It was a huge gamble that didn't payoff ( This far anyway ) but at least we have Purdy to be excited about.

Kyle should be banned from the draft room unless we need his advice on drafting receivers.

Why ban Kyle? Isn't he the guy that drafted Purdy? He drafted Bosa and all the LBs. They worked out okay.

Purdy, Yes. I doubt he's responsible for drafting the others, tho.

Grant Cohn can have some awful takes at times but he's right on this...how can you really judge Lance or even Darnold based on 5-7 throws a day, lol. There just aren't enough reps to around and especially not enough for QB4 Allen.

According to some recent quotes by Shanahan. Purdy was only getting something like three reps per practice last year, but he always made the most of them, and as a result ended up making Sudfield, and his $2 million dollar guaranty expendable. My guess would be that if you are only getting a handful of reps per practice you had better not throw two five-yard gimmes into the dirt. It's early yet, and padded practices don't start until next week, so Lance still has time to change the narrative, but it literally is in his hands at this point. He needs to maximize every rep and every opportunity and show Kyle, and the team, that he will be able to execute the offense as its designed, which means hitting the gimmes and moving the chains.

You don't think he was partly responsible for drafting Kittle, Elijah, Banks, Burford, and etc?
