I think the convo on the trade up to acquire TL is not only part of the TL thread, but will be a discussion for some time to come. It's like Alex vs Aaron. Some convos are here to stay, cuz they are such big moments / moves, in franchise history.

Do you think we'd be a better or worse team if we had Waddle, Hill, and Chubb instead of Lance?

This is ridiculously disingenuous. You know damn well the Dolphins spent a LOT more than just the picks they got from us to get those players.

This has been talked about many times before and it's borderline trolling that people post those graphics pretending it's simply Trey vs those 3 players. That's not even accounting for the salaries Chubb and Hill got which were huge and would never work with our cap.

So why the stupid question?

And that's just one angle of the failure. There were/are plenty others, some of which we may miraculously avoid.

It's safe to say we don't end up with Hill, Waddle, and Chubb. It's also safe to say we couldn't have gotten less from what we did so far.

Why is it safe to say that? We can say the former because we know the team wouldn't have the cap space to make those moves or the needs to make them.

However we easily could've drafted 3 first round picks who get injured just as Trey did and do even less for us and play a less critical position. That's the thing with hypothetical scenarios, they're not automatically all rainbows and sunshine. You can draft busts at other positions as well and guys can suffer injuries playing any position.

Trey's career is still not over with the 49ers. Until it is we don't know if he ends up proving his selection to be more important than the picks we gave away for him.

All these hypotheticals are just dumb. If we don't trade up and pick Lance, we probably don't have Brock right now. It's the butterfly effect. We may have Waffle or Chubb or whoever, but still have Jimmy. Half our roster would be different today if we don't take Lance. Maybe we'd actually be worse than we are now even with Lance not playing. Who knows

I thought it was too much to trade for any player in that draft. I like Trey but I don't think I'd trade all those picks for anything less than a sure fire blue chip stud.
I always thought they traded for the 3rd pick, to be in a package for Deshaun Watson.
when his creepiness was discovered, they were f**ked.

Waddle and Hill would have quit if they played with a QB who didnt throw downfield.

Imagine thinking it would have been Lance or these 3.

Waddle cost 2 first and a 4th

Chubb cost 1st 4th and a RB

Hill cost a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), second-round pick (No. 50) and fourth-round pick, plus fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft

Look at that, 3 for 3. The usual suspects. Amazing.

We'd rather live in a pretend world where we'd have every elite player on the planet if not for trading for Lance. All the while pretending paying 137 million for players doesn't have any effect on who you can acquire.

I jus tlooked it up to see what players were drafted with the 2 first round picks that the Niners gave up. In 2022 they Pats via atrade with Miami used the 29th pick to draft an offensive guard named Cole Strange. In 2023 again with the 29th pick DT Bryan Bresee was selected.

Both of these guys may turn out okay but neither would have been a game changer for the Niners. Lance has had problems so far but the Niners felt he was worth a risk since the reward would have been huge if he worked out the way they hoped. There's no way they could have seen the injuries .

No no no CatchMaster. Gotta pretend a guard who was drafted 2 rounds too early is a game changer because Bill B took him. Also gotta believe a DT with a lengthy injury history would stay healthy, 9ers have a great history with those guys.

That article offered nothing new outside of trying to rep one of the guys they worked with before(even said so in the article) and trying to work backwards ignoring other information to make that original report somehow seem accurate.

Lonardo's report last year was way overblown and made a mountain out of a molehill.

The issues Trey had as a rookie were related to his finger injury. We also know how we got to where we are now which is Brock Purdy coming in and playing great ball.

Where we are now is the unknown. We haven't seen much of Trey since his recovery and recent work with a new QB coach. We've heard reports that he looks much better but we have to see if that lasts once games start or can he be consistent with it during camp/preseason. Also obviously have to see when Brock comes back and how he looks.

Meh. I think I'll just wait for training camp. Thanks anyway.
