Because for some the desire for Trey to fail supercedes the desire for anyone else to succeed.

Yep. It is a little like the Alex Smith syndrome.

I remember the Alex thread, then the Kap, then the Jimmy G….those were always like this.
Heavy is the thread that bears the name "49ers QB"

Truth!

Have to wonder if George Kittle makes that catch…

You also saw him adjust later in the game and hit Jennings and had it not been for the rain and that crappy field he likely houses it.

Also why is it Lance's miss like that costs them the game but we act like Jimmy G is a winner when he missed Sanders on a bigger overthrow in the SB?

Taking a single play in those conditions and acting like this is why the team can't win with Lance is absolutely ridiculous when the same people think the team can win with Garoppolo who has missed guys like that on numerous occasions.

And also why did Trey cost us #1 seed in his 3rd career start but Garoppolo didn't cost it for us literally handing points to the Denver offense that could do nothing for almost all game long?

Jimmy cost us big as well, many times

Imagine if 49ers forums existed in the early 90s.

Why is Jimmy even being brought up in this thread anyway? He's irrelevant to this team now. The only comparisons that matter are the qbs on the roster. I sure will be glad when they start up playing so this will be settled. Y'all are just talking in circles now.

Because people see hypocrisy where there isn't any.

I brought him up because a large group of Trey drunk crowd were making every excuse in the book any time Jimmy played poorly and I was pointing out that Jimmy still got the "he's a winner" notion despite doing those things Trey is getting knocked for.

Simply put there is no reason to claim the team can't win with Lance at this point. Certainly not by the same people who pumped up Jimmy or excused him for the very things they're knocking Trey for despite much less experience.

OMG! That's never happened before in Niner Talk! I think you folks are arguing about the wrong thing here. You should be debating who is the better 'cherry picker' because that's what you all do when comparing one player to another. Who's the biggest winner? Who's the number one cherry picker? LOL. It's really like those folks that like to quote a piece of the bible to bolster their point of view, while at the same time ignoring other quotes in the book that would disrupt their lives.

Trey will get better over time. I would be large sums of money he will be at least a decent QB before he retires, if not really good. The problem is that he has one year on his contract before we are forced to decide on if he's going to stick around, and Purdy gets the inside shot at being the long term QB. His options to stay here are basically either hope for an opportunity whilst also making enough improvement this year for it to matter, or signing a short term extension with us with a backup salary and hope he can break through in the next two years.

With our luck, Lance won't play next season and we won't execute his fifth year option. Then we have to start him in year four (pick any reason) and he becomes incredible and leaves in free agency (even though we could just tag him). Lol but you get what I mean

Wtf are you talking about? I have countless posts in here defending Jimmy for the things he needed to be defended about.

Trey has 4 starts and just turned 23 and people out here acting like the guy has to be perfect while having a totally different energy to a 9 year vet QB.

As I've always said... This fanbase historically has to have a QB to be a punching bag. It's in our DNA dating back to even Montana some. People were pretty hardcore towards Steve too until he won one.

It's all it is. Nothing more. Now I understand not being sold on Trey but many here just flat out need a QB to pick on and always have. I don't understand it but again it's always been prevalent.

From my understanding, Trey definitely is with us for the next two years (2023 & 2024) if Kyle wants him to stay. Then (if AB81 says differently I defer to him on this) in 2025 Kyle can sign him to a one year extension for another year on the team. So potentially, Kyle can keep Trey for 3 more years, I believe. That should be more than enough time to assess whether or not Trey can be a franchise QB in this league or be a Gardener Minshew type of backup.

Nonsense. Some people just can't stand Trey NOT being the guy. I have no idea why.
