He has to convince Kyle that he's the best option to start in the short term. I'd imagine that would look like clear fundamental improvement and consistent success throughout camp and preseason.
Not quite sure how involved Purdy can/will be going forward (in preparation for the season) but it probably doesn't help Lance that he is effectively competing against what Purdy accomplished last year instead of whatever Purdy is going to show going forward. It's a high standard.
Yeah, I think Lance can prime himself to give Purdy a shorter leash and give Kyle a lot of confidence in him. Idk if he could overall take the job before Purdy gets a chance, but anything is possible. I think Lance would have to be playing out of his mind well to do that in camp.
like Smokey said, Lance is competing against what Purdy accomplished last year. So I'd imagine the plan is to give Purdy first shot at it and how he does will determine a lot, fluid situation. I think the most important thing Lance can do is operate the offense at a level near or at Purdys ability last year, to give Kyle that confidence to make a switch if Purdy isn't playing as well as we all hope.
i think Purdy would have to play average or so and struggling in the first five games or so before Kyle would make that kind of switch, but who knows.
i just want to see Lance continue to improve and stay healthy. Lol if he starts the season healthy, it'll be the first time ever and that's a win in and of itself hahah
