I have a feeling this gets done. I smell a 2nd this year. A 2nd-4th next year that has potential to be a 1st

are we talking trading Trey?

I just don't see it. We got him under contract. The contract is cheap for a QB in the starting conversation. He has 2023, 2024, 2025 (option), that's a lot of time here for us to see what he can become. Plus if BP is out week 1, you would be starting Darnold almost by default and some rando as QB2 would dress for the opener.

Trading Trey makes a lot of sense assuming Purdy is ready by week 1, pick ups where he left off, and will stay healthy for all 17+ games. We should always operate under the impression that the best case scenario will always happen.

I don't know if it's opposite day but no that's not how you plan

Since he will be getting a lion share of the reps this off season - anxious to see how he looks.

i wanna see how he looks when A) not playing in a monsoon B) has george kittle C) has CMC

He's working with Quincy Avery in ATL. Avery works with Watson/hurts as well. I'm sure Lance will also be in south CA working at 3DQB as well (John Beck/house and Co.)

Thanks NY. Those names helped cause I wanted to read up on them.

watson is probably the only qb in the league I hope fails. 1. Eff him 2. Eff the browns for that dumb contract

What's funny is if he's wasn't a sexual predator. He's probably a 49er

I wanted us to draft him so bad that year. He was who I wanted BAD. Before the whole scandal, I was a big fan of his.

sometimes things are just bigger than sports and I think it also makes the organization look crappy, as well as hurts the locker room atmosphere.

Mistakes happen! Look at Solomon Thomas and Kinlaw! So we bet the farm and lost? Get a third rounder for Trey and move on. It sucks but it happens!

We found gold in the 7th round with Purdy so some of the pain has been eradicated.

This is the dumbest take…

Yeah move a 22 year old QB after 4 starts for a 3rd rounder when he's on his rookie deal…

Some of you guys clearly have no clue how things work as far as salary cap goes and overreact to things to an extreme way.

Let's also forget about wtf happened last season and rely on post UCL surgery Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold…

Mac Jones was even worse early on. He got up to below average by the end of his rookie year and has remained there. Trey probably would have been that good by now. His injuries played a big role in his development. But BROCK PURDY is they reason why it's more than likely we'll never realize his potential here. Assuming Purdy returns and is still effective, of course. And you know what? That's fine. I'll take it.

I'm not interested in comparing Mac Jones to Trey, other than to use that report as an indication that the 49ers didn't necessarily want to sit a rookie for a year behind Jimmy G, even if they publicly said that was the plan.

That was definitely sarcasm, lol.
the dead money means nothing, it's about the draft picks... teams would pay millions every year if they were allowed to buy additional draft picks for the draft... $10 million dollars to buy a 3rd round pick so we could draft Fred Warner (which is TL's dead money hit if traded)? good business decision there a no brainer

We can't keep s**tting 1st rounders away

I'd love to see Trey develop his accuracy! I pray it happens. I like the kid, just have my doubts. Hope he proves me wrong.

Houston, Tennessee, Jets, Miami are the leaders in the clubhouse right now to make this trade...

Hmm I think he would do well in TN or Baltimore more so than those teams. I also think Houston is going to draft a qb, so they would want more a stop gap. I can't see the dolphins getting him because their offense relies a lot on accuracy. Maybe Indy?

Trading Trey Lance for a 3rd rounder and eating that kind of money is a no brainer, just in the other direction. No way they do that.

Please tell me this is a joke post…

TL by the end of September can move the needle from a single 3rd to multiple ones, that's how fast NFL football works.

If he doesn't pan out you can flip him in a year or two when we have more info that it isn't working.

Just keep in mind there were reports that people in the building thought he was more ready to start than Mac Jones, and based on their public comments they were open to starting him over Jimmy if he beat him out for the job.

They didn't necessarily think he was the project others did... which we'll likely never know until the decision costs someone a job. Either way, they are still ultimately responsible no matter how you slice it.

BUT Mac "never got to play with Kittle or CMC" (or Deebo or BA for that matter) also had Matt Patricia and not Kyle calling plays.

Its not fair to compare anyone to Lance because he's on a team with numerous all pro/pro bowlers and one of the best coaches in the league for QBs. No one else came close to having half as good a situation as Lance got.

some guy made a comment earlier that he wanted to see Lance play with CMC, Kittle, and good weather. Lol well I want to see Lance try and play decent on a bad team or average team. lol imagine he was drafted by the bears or falcons? Lmao those kind of comments blame everyone but Lance for his poor play and essentially want a perfect situation for him before judging. That just isn't football.

Could just as easily be paying 11mil for Trey Sermon.

It's easy to make it seem like a "good business decision" when your what if scenario has the best possible outcome.

Reality is often a little different.
