I think the problem about talking potential after a player has been drafted, is that majority of the players never reached their full potential. Every single 1st round pick QB has the so call "potential" to be the franchise QB and probably half of them are complete busts.
The QB position is more mental than physical. Tom Brady and Joe Montana had mid to low potential as a prospect coming out of college, same with Purdy. I am not saying Purdy will be as good as Tom Brady or Joe Montana at all, but I would say he has the "potential" to be similarly good. It is really about how good he can be mentally in reading defense and shine under pressure.
A lot of the time players with high potential go to s**t teams and are overwhelmed trying to do more than they can. Toss in bad coaching and poor ownership…they never get a chance to fail, learn from it, develop and improve. There's a reason they've drafted high most years.
You got guys that have top end talent and zero work ethic or football IQ as well. They don't take responsibility for faults and seem a bit entitled. kyler Murray comes to mind.
Lance imo has the work ethic and mentality to want to be good. He does everything right from that perspective. Clearly kyle, ownership and the FO agreed. Can he put it all together? Not sure, only going to find out by actually playing football.
Guys like Brock need to learn the game and process everything quicker due to the lack of those elite traits. Like you said that's a massive part of the game. It's a reason why a lot of those underwhelming QBs become coaches. The goal IMO is to have both.
love what Brock is doing and hopefully he can keep it up this yr. Could he be the next Montana? Sure (doubtful but we can dream). Could he be the next Case Keenum? Yeah that's a possibility all the same.
