Why does he need bonding time. He spent a whole year with most of the guys last year. 2 ota's and 2 training camps This isn't anything to be concerned about

Too soon to say that. Thus injury doesn't make him a bust unless it is a limiting factor long term.
He'll get his chance to shine next year and the year after that at least.
