If the answer is yes then I think he should start imo.

Maybe they can, but that's how you fracture a locker room. Outside of Jimmy getting injured or just playing awful, Trey should not start. It would be a huge mistake, no matter how great he looks in practice.

So you don't believe in "best men on the field?" What if Trey makes it a competition, like coach said he can, and flat out no question beats Jimmy?

It's no secret that I'm not a Jimmy fan, but the team is. A lot of players on the team not only really like him, but think he is good. Sherman broke it down pretty well when he talked about Jimmy.

All these guys who resigned on 1 year deals back with us they are doing it for a SB chance. And no SB has ever been won with a rookie. Way less likely that we win with Trey than with Jimmy.

How many times has a rookie been given the keys to a team as loaded as ours is though? Most teams picking top 3 is garbage. All sports records has never been broken until it is. All I'm saying is that if Trey outplays Jimmy all off-season and earns/wins the job then he should play. Doubt the players will have emotions on it if they see it as well.

Trey will play when Kyle thinks he can handle enough of the load...and that really all depends on Lance. There is no etched in stone/right or wrong way for a young QB to be put into the starting lineup. Some think he learns faster with reps. Some think he should sit a half a year/full year or whatever. If TL is a football savant (and I'm not saying he is) and lights it up from go.....he can start week 1. It doesn't matter if Matt Ryan took a full year to grasp Kyles offense. It doesn't matter what any other QB under Shanahan has to say. If Lance comes in and is basically Rainman, he could start against Detroit in September.

I doubt this happens, but I've seen stranger things.

Matt Ryan is a good example of a rookie starting from day 1 and it benefitting them. I love Jimmy and realistically he gives us our best chance. As fans we are in a pinch. On one hand we have a proven winner when he plays. He's like a 350Z back in its hay day. On the other hand we have a potential Ferrari or Honda Civic. We want to see if it's a Ferrari and will eat crow if a Civic rolls out.

Either way this season will be interesting to say the least. We knew the past couple years we had Mullens and Beathard behind Jimmy. We knew those guys wouldn't push for the starting spot.

I do want to see a rookie win the SB though. If not now with the Niners and its current loaded roster, then when?

This is a record we deserve. I would love to see this.

Yeah, I agree. It's one of the best shows in Netflix.

It just amazes me in general with Simms. I'm sure he's a great guy and yeah he was still more successful than most guys who ever picked up a football and played or tried to play QB.

But for a guy who was the son of a QB who relied more on being cerebral than anything- I mean Phil Simms wasn't a prototype as an athlete, rocket armed pocket passer or anything when he played, Chris Simms was a disappointment at Texas and a nothing in the NFL. Yeah I'm an Ohio State guy but hearing him talk about Fields, and every player has flaws, areas for improvement, etc. But Simms is a guy who couldn't even figure out/fix himself let alone any other QB prospect in this past draft or drafts to come.

The whole Lance thing is interesting and amazing to me. Even the top story on the main page when I came here now about ESPN predicting his rookie year stats. I don't know that I have ever seen the media as a whole so determined to get one particular QB off a roster or on the bench of that roster as they are with Jimmy G.

They're already having clearance sales on Garoppolo jerseys.

If Lance is half as good as we think he is even as a rookie, having him, Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk, potentially Julio, Ritchie James (he'd be a beast of a #4 receiver), mostert, sermon, and the rest of the RB committee is cream worthy

Seriously Lance would have the best possibly rookie starting situation with Julio, Kittle, Deebo, and Aijuk along with our running game and his ability to scramble. I mean, he wouldn't have to be that good to man the ship…

James has been a 4th receiver, and a 5th, a 6th and briefly a starter. He's always been towards the back end of the receivers room which is where 4's hang out.
