Agreed. He'll be as ready as he could possibly be.

I like Lynch, he has a good head on his shoulders. He knows how to handle Kyle. He basically gives Kyle the information Kyle needs to make good decisions. Example, they changed the medical grading system to highlight the potential draftees previous injures. He's able to self scout and learn from the Reuben Foster incidents.
The most important thing I like about John is he knows his job is to support Kyle and not be the coach (opposit of the way Baalke seemed to run things). An added bonus is that he has a great relationship with Mike Shanahan, who he probably has relied on to influence Kyle in a certain direction John thinks he needs to go (possible example is the Kirk Cousins model vs the Mobile QB model). And was able to get Kyle to draft Trey.
Both Kyle and John love football and have a great relationship and I think that's probably the best thing about them I like the most. They could easily have thrown each other under the bus with regards to not drafting Mahomes, but they didn't, instead both learned from that mistake and got Trey.
Yes, his comments about the whole Foster thing were pretty interesting, how he was thinking he could reach him as a person, and how that turned out to be more of Lynch looking at it through his prior player-to-player perspective, where he actually felt he was able to reach people like this, but in his current role the dynamics are just different.
I don't know anything about his relationship with Mike Shanahan, so good to hear that. A reporter was trying to get a scoop from Mike right before the draft, and was surprised that when Mike called him back, the caller ID showed that the call came from the 49ers' Santa Clara headquarters, which meant that Mike was in the building working with them pre-draft, I thought that was awesome.

Agree. I think Mike is one of the more *unofficial* GM's out there in 49er land. I know John is the GM, but if there is another person who has almost as much power in the 49er organization, that would be Kyle's dad. Mike has a relationship with the 49ers and the Yorks since Seifert, and Mike and John Lynch going back to their Bronco days. You don't sent scouting reports, practice tapes and drills, and team meetings to just *anybody* like the 49ers do with Mike.
I have no proof, but I think one of the guys that moved Kyle from the Kirk Cousins QB model to the Steve Young model was his father and the experience he had with Steve Young. If not this draft, at least when Mike and Kyle were coaching RGIII. It's kind of funny but the 2021 49ers, from a personnel grouping standpoint, (specially the OLine and RB positions) look a bit more like the '94 49ers and '97-'98 broncos than ever before.
I think Mike gets too much love from the fans in terms of his importance. I think Adam Peters is the guy who really pulls serious weight with his evaluations.
Yep. Kyle literally answered this question 3-4 times saying as much so. His dad comes around once a year a talks shop and that's it. Like most of Gedi's 49er fan fiction there is very little basis in reality with no sources or links to articles. Just a very active 49ers imagination.
Baseless accusations without proof is a lazy response to, what I think, was a valid opinion. Secondly I advise you to withhold from personal attacks Nutrone06.
Lynch admitted, much to his head coach's chagrin, that he did ask to have his father's input back in 2017 when Kyle first became head coach. Lynch said Mike Shanahan doesn't contribute much but they do tap his brain when they get the chance.
"He doesn't speak much, but he's a very, very valuable resource... He happens to be very knowledgeable and we try to use that as an asset for our organization," Lynch said.

Soooo freaking excited for the Trey Lance era! Truly believe we got one of um boys, the future QB faces of the NFL with Mahomes, Jackson, Murray, Herbert, Allen etc... No doubt in my mind Lance will be in that tier
Yeah, same here, can't wait to see the rook play.
I wonder who he considers a good GM. Lynch helped rebuild a terrible team that made it to the SB in 3 years. He mentioned Carman Policy as being a bad GM but he was fine with the Niners. I seem to remember so SB wins when he was here. So I ask again, who is a great GM? What makes a great GM? SB wins? Season results? Pro Bowl players? No GM wins every year or hits on every draft pick.
What does Lance even know about Carmen Policy? Lance wasn't alive when Policy was a GM.

I'm pretty sure thl was just making a solid effort to get the convo back to Lance while making a joke.
I know I've been guilty of non Lance talk here lately. Easy to get off track sometimes.
. We forgive you!

What if Jimmy leads us to a 5-2 record looking pretty sharp. However, Trey also looks like he can play and possibly have a Ben Roethlisberger esque rookie season where we can still win games while protecting some of his inexperience.
Who should play!?

Lets hope so, 4ML - I'd love for him to get the starting job sooner rather than later.

I always said the best possible outcome is for Jimmy to start the season and light it up as we go 7-0(5-2 is for the birds) at the same time Lance sits, learns and gets a much better grasp of the offense and gets time to show what he can do spelling Jimmy in some games whether due to blowout wins or some plays where Lance gets to run the offense.
Some team who may be down their starter due to injury or poor play(Washington/Denver I'm looking at you) and we move Jimmy for a 1st round/ 2 2nd round picks and Lance takes over and doesn't miss a beat.
Realistically I think if Jimmy has us at 7-0 or 5-2 as long as he's not getting carried(think Alex in 2012) and doing his part there's no reason to play Lance.
I think the team will start Lance when he looks like the best QB out there but if Jimmy is playing well and winning us games I don't see how Lance can win the job without risking fracturing the locker room.
End of the day it's about winning.
