49ers weren't healthy in 2019...Brady is the GOAT but he wasn't beating that 2019 defense.
We had numerous good bounces? What are you talking about? We played one of the toughest schedules while dealing with some of the worst injury situation in the league that year. We completely outplayed Seattle all year long and needed to beat them at their house to even win their division because they coasted and got a cheap win over us with half the team out due to injury, including the kicker who missed a game winner in OT
Who had an answer for our running game when we were healthy and committed to it? KC didn't stop it, we stopped it.
We don't know if our defense was better then or will be next year. It certainly wasn't great in the 2nd half of the season. Losing Buckner and not having Ford is a downgrade. Getting younger players to develop further and having an actually legit corner in Verrett to play with a great DL is another situation.
Overall I'd say our team is definitely better on paper.
Hear hear. Nice post brother! I concur
Yeah, I must say - that was a good post.
Meh . . . questionable. A lot of games were close that year if I recollect correctly. The Niners could have had 3, 4 more losses if the ball doesn't bounce their way.
I don't knw about "completely outplaying Seattle" either. Both games were really close. That doesn't qualify as "completely outplaying". If you were a Seattle fan, you could (and did) argue that the Hawks were robbed by a pass interference non-call by Warner in the end zone.
Some players did get nicked up during the season, as is to be expected, but they were rested and strong for the push in the playoffs. Luck was on the 49ers side that season.
As rosters go, Defense is a big question mark. New DC. I wouldn't claim that it's better. They have to prove it. We'll have to see how they gel. Offense? Yea should be better. Especially if Lance plays. But as a whole team, you definitely need a complementary defense. We'll see.
Single digit close game wins in 2019
Steelers - where we had 5 turnovers with most of them being completely stupid on our part
Redskins - a game we dominated from start to finish and it was only "close" because of the crazy weather
Arizona - game on short rest, several key injuries in that game and we led 28-17 late in the 4th quarter and it was only close due to an 88 yard TD catch by Andy Isabella (which was almost half of his SEASON total that year)
Saints - yes, one bounce can win or lose this one.
Rams 2 - close game for sure but I'd say Rams got more lucky bounces in that one than we did...considering the talent on each roster that year
Seahawks 2 - would've never been as close as that game was if the refs didn't help them out late. We didn't trail the whole game
You also had single digit close loses in 2019
Seahawks 1 - literally missed game winning FG in OT...with the backup kicker out there
Ravens - tough road game in sh*t weather conditions
Falcons - we win this game if Kittle doesn't try to change hands while carrying the football, his first career fumble and he wasn't touched. We win this game and the week 17 game vs Seattle doesn't even matter to us.
You can pretty much do this for any team btw.
KC in 2019 had 5 single digit wins.
Even NE in 2007 during their 16-0 run had 4 games which were single digit wins.
We had a top 5 offense and defense that year. It definitely wasn't a "lucky" situation. Had our team stayed healthy like Baltimore or teams like that we'd have rolled all year long.
So much this ^
The game against the Falcons we also had seven starters on defense out I believe? Please, it's not even an argument how the injuries impacted some of these other teams. We had the hardest 3 game stretch based on the GB Saints Baltimore which we came a fg away at being 3-0.
Anyways if Trey looks ready for the playoffs then I say bring him in
