I'll be looking forward to seeing Trey's physical talent and mental acuity on display in spite of the many naysayers polluting this thread.

Well I sure as heck hope we had an agreement in place as that would further explain why we are making Jimmy wait until the very last day for his release
Perhaps it was Jimmy goofing around because ideally that surgery should have went down the week we lost but what's been reported is he tried to rehab and then he found he needed surgery
Tough break all around yet still a WB with his win/loss and playoff record should have been able to garner us something in a trade especially since everyone knew he'd be ready to go by training camp

I have never seen a QB that gets his snap counts and playing time dissected by everyone like the media and fans do to Lance. This is getting pretty old. We get it, the dude is young. Everyone was a rookie once, let the dude consistently play before bashing him.

Patience people.
When you use 3 1sts and a 3rd to draft a player, the expectations should be rightfully high
Agreed, but those expectations also require patience.
You can't expect big things from a QB who only has two starts under his belts through his career. Let's at least give him a full season before deciding If he was worth all that draft capital we Invested.
I'm saying for that much capital it should have been a day 1 starter. That's not what you spend on a project. It was foolish, but I hope it works out.
You spend that on a project if the project hits.
Will find out in years 3/4 whether it hits.

Then why didn't the Pats move up to 8 or so to make sure he didn't go to Denver. Seems they were fine with risking it. Bears moved up to secure Fields.
Moving up is a long term plan. Not a hey we need this player right now to win. I don't care about 2021, I care about 2022-2030+

Glad you're not the decision maker. I could
see Mac at 12 but NOT at 3!
I never wanted to move up at all period. So if I was the decision maker we would have still been at 12. Or possibly a slight trade up. No way I would have given up 3 1sts for any of the QBs.
EDIT: I personally would loved to see where Trey would have went if we didn't take him. We'll never know obviously

For a fan base that hasn't seen a title for over 25 years, some of you guys are sure lenient with the word "patience". I was a freshman in high school when the Niners last won a SB. I'm sick of waiting and I agree with mattster. This team is built to win now! We're not the NY Jets or Jacksonville Jaguars, ready to wait 5 years to hopefully build a legitimate roster that can dominate for years to come. Both the Seahawks and Rams have won titles this century. We haven't. So personally I won't have that much patience with Trey. I agree like most posters that Jimmy wasn't good enough. But I'm not sold on Lance and if we were going to give up all that capital to acquire a project, I'd rather we used it to trade for a proven talent in the league. If McVay made it happen with Stafford, then why couldn't we ? I mean, hell, we gave up 3 first rounders !

How much patience do you have with the O line? Because they aren't built to win now. It is going to take a few months to a year for both Trey and the O line to build enough experience before we should even consider having SB aspirations.

amen bro. I don't think many posters will agree or have the patience. But I'm with you.

It amazes me how quick some fans are to write of a player when they haven't even had a chance to show what they can do over any sustained period of time. I'll bet some of the people that have already decided that Trey isn't the right guy loved Kaepernick after his first few games. Many of us were excited about Jimmy at first but in the long run we saw what he really was and so did the team.
Basing opinions on a small number of games isn't a good idea. It can lead to poor decisions like over paying players after one season or releasing guys that just hadn't developed yet.

He's such an unknown that to make declarative statements either way is crazy.

I think the trade for immense upside at QB was fine. What bothered me however was that we goofed around when right after we lost we should have found a trading partner for Jimmy and gotten draft value going into the 2022 draft
The way I see it is we knew Trey would redshirt in 2021 so that's your first pick that would have been spent on him anyway. We had him to make 2021 a success as we redshirted Trey
2022 is the first real pick spent in excess of the 2021 selection required to get him. We will now get our first taste of Trey in his first 17 game season. This year is his introduction. Year 2023 is the second pick in excess of 2021 and this is where we get to see if we were right to select him where he should be taking his second year jump.
If we are wrong then we will have a high pick in 2024 to make it right
It really was not such a bad trade because we had Jimmy to guarantee the first year went well so now we can take a look over the next couple years. We spent three firsts to evaluate a guy three years which is normally what it entails and then if we were wrong we pick first year four
Now let us put in work and see if we nailed it this time!
A plausible argument but if Trey doesn't workout who will be making that pick?
