can't see us paying both can you?

We may have no choice considering Deebo seems unwilling to sign an extension as of right now.

If both Aiyuk and Jennings have great seasons that very well could make Deebo obsolete.

I don't know about 'obsolete'. I see Jennings' ceiling as a quality possession WR, not a dynamic playmaker anywhere close to Deebo. There is always a place for Deebo in this offense.

Kittle says Jimmy ghosts him all the time lol
i mean this wasn't some sting operation to know this about jimmy... here's just one article thats fairly recent

However, Kittle quipped on Tuesday their connection ended once the season was over.
When Kittle was asked how Garoppolo is doing this offseason, Kittle said he was not in a position to answer that question.
"No idea," said Kittle, matter of factly. "Still no text back. It is what it is.
"He got me an iPhone, then never called me back on it. I'll take that, I guess."
Kittle, one of the more light-hearted players on the team, has made fun in the past of his difficulties in trying to communicate with Garoppolo

Right but it's tough to say if he was a bad texter since 2017 tho. I mean from Jimmy's perspective the Niners ghosted him since they drafted Lance. Why would he be responsive to teammates THIS offseason. I would be like F off the way we treated him. Knowing for 1.5 years your clock was ticking and the fans especially cannot wait for you and your salary to be gone. I bet he was good at responding to teammates 2017-2020ish timeframe. Who knows it's just my speculation

Edit* I don't mean ghosted him as if the Niners told him to F off. Obviously they were gracious to let him start an entire season. I mean ghosting by drafting your replacement and letting your intentions for him (getting traded or released) known since day one and never wavering.
i mean we can go back to 2019 almost 2 years before Trey

Heck where are all the social media posts of him just hanging out with teammates?

he's just not a person who's close to the team when he doesn't need to be.

Jimmy is his own wingman.

I didn't say just Jennings though. I said both Aiyuk and Jennings. Besides, I would feel a lot better if both stepped up this season in case Deebo truly doesn't want to play for us any longer.

Sounds lile Jimmy was a "Crappy" friend, as well. Who wants a guy like that on their team?

Ah ok. Even if Aiyuk realizes his potential, I don't know if Jennings can carry the role as WR2. Perhaps it can be a combination of Gray/Aiyuk/Jennings that would help the 49ers absorb the loss of Deebo. I interpreted 'obsolete' as being no longer being needed and having no worth. If Deebo doesn't want to play for the 49ers anymore then that's a big loss no matter what Jennings and Aiyuk does.

The talk about Aiyuk and Jennings being better route runners and the fact that the passing game will be a little more vertical and a little less short and over the middle may lessen Deebo's role this upcoming season. So I guess time will tell how important Deebo will be for this offense going forward.

Fair point. Deebo thrives between the numbers. It remains to be seen if Lance's preference for throwing outside the numbers is because he is comfortable with Aiyuk, or because he is comfortable throwing outside the numbers, no matter who the WR is.

True. It is definitely something to watch out for throughout the season.

Yeah, X and Z...different roles and skill sets in this offense and they both fit so well.

YAC, I'm assuming you mean, we would trade Deebo for premium capital and use one on another first round Z?

But yeah, all 3 stepping up would help a ton if we had to move on from Deebo.

I like outside because it's simple 1on1. Now, a wiley veteran CB could bait Trey here but it's a lot less traffic to work through and our YAC WR's were drafted to get open quickly in short areas.

I don't know yet about the deep ball yet playing off that. That'll be fun to watch set up.

But I would imagine Trey is most comfortable outside to start with.

Don't get me wrong. I am a big time Deebo Samuel fan. Like everyone else, I have no idea whether Deebo is going to sign an extension or if he even really wants to he here beyond this season. I prefer that we keep Deebo but it would be nice to know that production at the WR position would take a huge hit if he did leave.

As far as X and Z, I guess I am just not that fluent in such terminology. After a quick search, it says that the Z plays off the LOS and the X plays on the LOS. So if Aiyuk and Jennings proved to be great this season and Deebo leaves, why couldn't one of them take Deebo's position?

If we got premium capital for Deebo, why not use it to bolster the O line instead?
