Link? Never heard of Lobs.

All his tweets are about Mac Jones, hating on Lance, and talking about how Malik Willis is a generational talent with great mechanics. He's laughable at best.

Good too see BamaNiner is still keeping tabs on the 49ers as he transitions to become a Bengals fan.

Dude…that's probably who it is!

i think the team always backed him i just think he wasnt ready last year we also knew that was the case if you looked at his tape and KS and Lynch said teh same thing from the beginning the plan was always to start him year 2
Just think of where he will be in September with this daily grind..
RE: throwing motion and spirals

I'd assume his finger injury had more to do with the ducks we've seen on the past than any changes to his overall throwing motion, and he alluded to as much during his press time when discussing changing his grip after his finger healed.

Also hit Matthew on a deep crosser vs 3-buzz over FS in hook w depth

Technically speaking, this dude is probably the smartest member of the local media, so what he says carries a lot of weight for me.

Yea, he's pretty knowledgeable, though I wonder if he could get into trouble for mentioning the specific coverage in his recap. That seems to be frowned upon.

Ohhh because the Raiders are in LV so now Ted covers the 49ers. Hell yeah

I mean that's great and all, but how did his calves look? And he did wear glasses indoors?

Idc if we had MVP Joe Montana out there, let alone a "rookie" QB. If your OLine is Swiss cheese, anybody will get cooked

it's going to be rough if this team is expecting to make a legit SB run.

Agreed. I don't have much confidence in the current o line.

We have the best o-lineman in football.

FTFY

Are ppl legit scared cuz we lost a 64 year old center and Tomlinson, a guy Detroit practically gave us for free? Really?

Yes. Because we also have a RT returning from a significant surgery which would effect his anchoring strength when he already struggled with it. Our 2nd year guard who rarely even dressed for games when that guy that Detroit gave away was starting. And now the rest will be filled by guys that this Front Office who hasn't shown a great eye for offensive linemen drafted. But Trent Williams is a dawg

The "64 year old center" was a pro bowler and gave us the best year from the position since Johnathan Goodwin. But hey, let's all put our faith in a journeyman nobody that no one has actually seen play

Trial by fire for Lance.

It will definitely be a test for him. I don't think the o-line will be terrible, but it definitely won't provide the perfect, ironclad pass protection that we've had for the last 3 years.

I mean the exaggerators are the ones claiming our pass protection was bad, when it was clearly better than average, average at worst. In fact, our line has been about as good at pass protection as Jimmy has been at quarterbacking. But when the agenda is to glorify one player, they must insult and degrade many other players, including our hard working offensive line. One player means more than the whole team.

i dont think i can agree with that the right side of line has been awful for a while. I think a lot got hidden with a quick release of Jimmy

I'm talking of the unit as a whole. Most advanced stats have the 49ers unit overall in the average range for pass protection.

The problem with pass protection is it's a one fail, all fail scenario. And the problem with fan evaluations of pass protection is that they don't tend to grasp the fact that ALL pass protection in the NFL is suspect because pass rush is phenomenal.

NOTE: offensive line metrics tend to focus on who wins their battles, not how long the QB holds the ball.

This is not true, it is a relative scale.

Great run blocking line, below average at PP has been the case the past few years.

You can't help yourself with bashing Jimmy and turning every thread into a Jimmy thread.

We had this discussion. In terms of winning their pass blocking matchups, as a TEAM, the 49ers were 14th at 61%. If that's not average, what is?

In fact, because I'm that guy, the mean win% is 59.59%, which means the 49ers pass blocking is ABOVE average. The median, if you're wondering, is 61.

Source on pass block win rate:
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32176833/2021-nfl-pass-rushing-run-stopping-blocking-leaderboard-win-rate-rankings

You can't help yourself with being too lazy to do the digging like I did to actually be accurate. The 49ers pass blocking is AT WORST average.

And once again, regarding this bs about me being a "Jimmy basher," I'll remind you all one more time that in my very detailed quarterback rating—which relies heavily on which stats correlate with WINNING—Jimmy has consistently ranked between 11 and 12. If I'm a "Jimmy basher," why do I believe he is nearly top ten?

Shameless plug (still in progress; I'll probably get rid of that piecewise function):

https://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/nfl/196068-new-homegrown-rating-metric-jimmy-controversially-ranks-12th/search=5_Golden_Rings

Why do you bring him up randomly in every thread?

The 49ers pass blocking win rate was average at 14th in 2021 according to ESPN. It ranked 22nd the year before and 26th in 2019.

That seems to fit my characterization that is has been below average over the past few years.

The average win rate in 2019 was 58.5. That means the 49ers were only 3.5 points below average (for comparison, the worst line was 16.5 points below average). In 2020, that average was 57.4, putting the 49ers a mere 3.4 points below average. And in 2021, they were above average.

The main problem here: you're not considering injuries. Our lines have been banged up very often. WHEN HEALTHY, they were an average pass blocking unit.

And why does that matter if I'm just trying to slam Jimmy as you think? Simple: I'm not. I'm trying to point out that TREY is possibly in trouble because when healthy our line was better than average at pass protection last year, and we just lost two of our three best linemen. And I'm giving our starting linemen from last year the credit they deserve. I only brought up people slamming them to overpraise other players because they are unfairly equating our backup guys with our starters, insulting our big boys to praise someone else.

So, you have changed your mind and now agree they were below average in 2019 and 2020.

I'm talking about our starters, so no. But including injuries, in this ONE STATISTIC, they are slightly below the mean. That doesn't mean they are below average in the sense I was using, which is the same sense in which people say Jimmy is above average or average—that there is a WINDOW OF UNCERTAINTY above and below the mean which we colloquially call "average."

Our sack numbers are reasonable. And before you say, "It's Jimmy's release," which of Jimmy and Trey had a LOWER sack %? Trey.

I saw a sports science show discuss this a few years ago, and they said a spiraling football actually doesn't reduce drag. The show said the wobble on a football has no effect on "cutting through the air." My whole football life had been a lie because I believed the exact same thing you posted.

They said the point of the spiral is to make it easier to catch.

how is that possible though (not doubting you). wobblers have a significantly increased surface area which means more resistance

Assuming it's a legitimate experiment, here are some possible explanations:

1. You have to add more energy to do the spin, which takes energy from the throw, which by necessity reduces the launch speed, and thus the distance.

2. The degree to which it matters is within the scope of experimental error.

3. They didn't control for launch speed.

I can't imagine the drag being that different between a slight wobble and a spiral.

It baffles me that people take the time to make accounts just to hate on players.

Skip Bayless really influenced a whole generation.
