This whole idea of you are either in the JG camp or the TL camp... 49er fan above all else. I was hoping JG would ball out 2021 and get us a Super Bowl and good comp. He got hurt which is his achilles heel. His achilles is fine, but his arm and thumb got busted. So no real comp to speak of.. now I am hoping TL has the breakout year shows his immense tools and uses our elite weapons to set the league on fire it will happen imo..

Anyone else thankful for JG and his time here putting his body on the line for us and excited for the TL era.. or is it just me?

Banks is also a massive question mark

Maybe you meant Brunskill?

Mina kimes, esteemed nfl expert. The lack of appreciation for Jimmy is astounding. Before jimmy, 4-12. First year with Jimmy starting, superbowl. But hey, just a coincidence.

What is your definition of succeeding exactly? What is a successful season this year?

While I do agree with your sentiment, I'm just not sure what you consider successful? Super Bowl appearance? 2 NFCC in 3 years? Good stats? 3rd leading win percentage in the NFL? What is your measurement of success?

Those are all team accomplishments.

My only hope for Trey this season is that he demonstrates some of the traits of a franchise QB and puts up decent numbers in the stats that most strongly correlate to elite QB play: a high BTT%, a low TWT%, and a high ADoT/Air Yards per Attempt.

Good post. I never thought Jimmy was as good as some do here but I am thankful for what he's done when he did play. Very excited for the TL era

That's right. Watch the drop-off coming here soon.

We know a guy who can do that.

Jimmy is an 8 year vet. Trey is a 1st year starter. You cannot reasonably have the same expectations for both. Handing Jimmy the job because of past accomplishments because your young QB is an unkown only prolongs the inevitable. I wouldn't call us a SB calibre team with or without Jimmy. We were damn lucky to make the playoffs and even luckier that our defense and special teams stepped up in the playoffs or this wouldn't even be a debate.

Yes he's an 8 year vet, but he sat for more than half of that, either behind Brady or due to injuries. People sort of lose sight of this. And in his first full year starting they Make the superbowl. Guys on her talking about how Trey needs snaps to improve, so let's look at jimmys ACTUAL starting snaps before he got to the superbowl.

Injuries are one but not the only reason we spent three 1st round picks on his replacement.

Who had SB expections for Jimmy at the start of the 2019 season? Not anyone that I know, that's for sure. Hell, I don't even have SB expectations for him for the rest of his career. His best shot at winning a SB was in 2019 and he failed to get it done and I don't foresee him ever having another squad like he had that season.

My expectations for Trey are much like they were for Jimmy at the start of the 2018 season before Jimmy got injured.

Most of the vitriol comes from Trey Lance (and by association 49er) trolling.

This is from december 28 in the mac jones thread...he was the messiah and trey was a bust until mac jones fell apart at the end of the year. then trolls disappeared and other posters started making milk carton jokes about them

I support both 100%. It's not a competition to me nor do I have to hate one to like the other. I really don't get it, but as I've said this fanbase is known to hate the current QB no matter who and sadly if Trey struggles this year many who support him now will turn on him really fast.

Thankful for JG. And while I agree with the sentiment, I have to tell you that the Niners have historically been divisive when it comes to QB1. If we stick just with the eighties to present, the role that QB1 plays in NFL, but especially for us has been critical. Yes, we have had great defenses, great running backs, and some very talented WRS, including the GOAT, but what made them go? QB1. What in the end won us championships? QB1 We have seen what happens when you have many of the other ingredients, but QB1 was lacking. 0-2 in the Super Bowl. And that right there is why Niner fans will fragment into camps about several positions, but none more so than good ol' QB1.

1st time seeing this. Funny you count me MIA after apparently two weeks. When the ones counting were missing for well over a month before that.

You're calling out his short comings of the 2 game stretch from when I went "missing" to your post and Jones total QBR were better in each of those two games than Lance's game vs HOU that everyone says was great. FWIW

Allen was just as much a projection as Trey was. As you said Trey's missing time his last year of football wasn't his fault. If anything Allen looked worse his last year in Wyoming. He was more proven and even that wasn't a massive difference like was the case with guys like Herbert, Mahomes, Prescott who had well over the 300 attempts Trey had in college.

Allen had just 650 attempts and unlike Lance he didn't miss virtually a whole season of play due to covid.

And there it is. Bigger, faster, stronger was all the rage last year.

Being bigger, faster, stronger is better all else being equal, yes.

Does a player being bigger, faster, stronger than another automatically make him better, no.

Don't try to make that into something it's not. There is a reason Tom Brady is a much better QB than Michael Vick or Jamarcus Russell. The problem is the assumption that Trey doesn't have the things which made Jimmy a solid NFL starter.

Credit to Trey for hitting it, it was a good throw(he's made much tougher throws), I'm not dissing the guy for hitting his receiver so don't cry, but 5 yards on either side, hell 10+ for the safety is as the announcer says "wide open" in NFL standards. And I know you think about Jimmy all of the time, even obsess about him so much you bring him up in the Trey thread, constantly, every moment of your life(then call others stans when you a true Stan brought up Jimmy as always, every... single...post(it's about more than football) )... .. . yes Jimmy has missed this easy basic NFL throw.

You're right Jimmy has missed even easier NFL throws

Oh and Mac had a thumb injury during those two games as well.

So if Trey gets a pass for his finger injury....

EDIT: oops non throwing hand. Nothing to see here.
