The running is still something I'm not sold on.

I don't necessarily mind the running I don't think he will ever have rg3, Kaep or Lamar like running efficiecnh but I just want him fast enough for when the play breaks down he can buy time in the backfield. I think his accuracy issues are overblown his intermediate accuracy was fine from I saw once he got settled in but something I hope he cleans up tho is those short passes he had a nice one in his td to Mitchell against the Texans but he also had cost some yac with a bad throw to Juice and missed deebo completely. It was something that happened occasionally in his ndsu film as well so hopefully that cleans up.

It made it look like they didn't know what they were talking about. If Trey fails they will feel validated, That they were right. It's also why they are still on this rediculous take that Kyle wanted Mac and changed his mind, Because they can say they were right on who the Niners were intending to draft.

Same can be said for a group of posters on this board.

Nope this is typical 49er QB drama. It's only going to get worse from here.

Agreed.

It's a story for two reasons, IMO:

(1) It's usually only teams that suck that change their QB, and a team that has been to a SB and championship game in two of the last three years and has given up a boat load to voluntarily change their QB is just a much more interesting story of a new QB change than practically all of them.

(2) Jimmy's surgery and him being parked on the team right now (which VERY clearly wasn't the plan) adds a layer of tension and drama. That Trey may not have looked good in early training camp 11 months is completely uninteresting right now unless you have Jimmy all dressed up with nowhere to go off to the side.

The media doesn't want Trey to fail (LOL at any of them caring), they want a juicy story filled with palace intrigue about one of the top teams in the NFL, and with this story they've got that in spades.

That a threat?

It's a promise...

Not from me though

I mean... we just spent what, a week on some anonymous nobody ass tweets? As I said this is typical 49ers QB drama.

It's true.

Grant Cohn took offense at Simms saying "Anybody you talk to who saw training camp last year," but failed to speak to Cohn, who claims that Trey Lance looked really good in camp, and that he gave the 49ers a better chance than Jimmy.

Of course, it's Cohn.

I give you props for this post.

This is a make-or-break situation for the QB, Coach, and GM. The only way to find out is to put him on the field. If Jimmy G is still around and starting we have our answer. The only reservation is that if the two QBs drafted ahead of Lance were available what would the 49ers have done. My guess is the Niners would've taken either one ahead of Lance. I'm a Niners fan and am rooting for him, but fans of this team have a very high standard and won't tolerate poor QB play.

It is not make or break for trey

Yep. He's not in a make or break situation till about his third year.

York said when we drafted him he's ok if he has to sit 2 years. Now I don't think that will be the case, but the kid is still very young. Not many 22 year olds are out there thriving in the NFL in the most important position.

Two years to sit isn't going to help him or the team long term. One year to sit and one year to cut his teeth (this year) is what needs to happen. 2022 is all about young guys contributing anyway. The window was last year. Now is the rebirth year. It will be a team building fail of epic proportions if any more of Lance's career is wasted on the bench, whether he's "ready" or not.

It's also most of 49er twitter that actually did go to camp that said Simms is full of s**t.

Guys like Jason Aponte, Javier Vega, Kyle Posey, John Middlekauff, Guy Haberman, Brad Graham, Jordan Elliott and even our own beat writers.

Yea they all took offense because he wasn't even there.
One thing I'm hoping he will improve on is the short to medium game. Sustained drives. I think thats what made made Jimmy successful when he was here. If you're sustaining drives, you're tiring and frustrating the other team. While I appreciate the homeruns and the big play potential, which is something we really lacked with Jimmy, ball controlled offense is such a huge part of getting the W.

Completely agree. And I saw some glimpses of it. Just need consistency.
It's like everyone wants this kid to fail just to prove that Lynch N Co. Made a mistake for giving up all that draft capital to get this guy.

I pray he goes out there's N just takes over this league in his 1st full year as a starter to quiet all the haters N Doubters once N for all. 😤

The key is being able to do both. Jimmy was great at sustaining drives but couldn't get you the big play when you needed it. Every drive cant be 20 plays, eventually a mistake happens and you stall or you face a day where the D cant keep you in the game the same way. If Trey can get to Jimmy level game management, leadership and drive sustaining AND keep that home run threat with the legs and the bigger arm....that will make this something special.

Tinfoil hat time:

Simms is a close friend of Shanahan. Shanahan wants to trade Garoppolo for decent value, but has very little leverage because teams know he wants to move on to Lance. So, Simms—at Shanahan's behest— leaks that the 49ers aren't secure in Lance, hoping to make it seem like a legitimate possibility they keep Garoppolo if no one trades for him.

Or maybe Simms only spoke to a couple of guys about it, and that's what they said.

My crackpot QB rating formula has 1D% as the most important contribution, because the win correlation of moving the chains is the highest among all the stats I considered. /shameless plug.
