I really dislike Grant Cohn, but his article on the homepage rings of the truth. When I saw Scangerello with Fields at his Pro day I thought that was who we were drafting. Seeing that interview looks like he was Mac Jones and probably banged the table.
I can't imagine how it must have felt for him to only find out on draft day with everyone else that you will be coaching someone who you don't think will succeed.
Now I'm not saying that held Lance back last year, but I am glad we've moved on, that relationship was never going to work.

Hey I've been team Lance from day one, I'm just stating an area of his game that'll take time. I'm hoping to see improvement come TC/preseason.
I chalk up 90% of the form breakdowns to nerves. If I were in his shoes I probably would have shat myself.
He is comfortable now. The minor issues should clear up, hopefully not to be replaced with any new ones.
That's actually an issue. He's showed "nerves" in every regular season game he's played. Admittedly, it could just be to overall lack of experience. But if it continues, that's a mild concern.

Cohn started out skeptical of Lance, but before the draft was convinced the 49ers would take him, and that they should take him.
He also thought they should have traded Jimmy and started him from week 1.
But yeah, Cohn is no one. Sometimes he brings people on his Youtube channel that know what they're talking about, however.

No doubt. IMO it's hard to even assume what the kid is inconsistent about based off 2 games. That's all I'm saying.

Right? I'm not proclaiming he's gonna step in and be Tom Brady, I just feel like there's not much to analyze right now. s**t the kid got damn near no 1st team reps and no legit practice reps outside of pretending to be the opponents QBs weekly. Why would anyone assume he would lock and stock ready to go lol?

I was never a Scags guy...I didn't see anything special from him. I actually didn't want SF to hire him back after failing elsewhere. He might have had a preference, but he also liked Josh Allen who was the farthest thing from Mac Jones. I do think there were some things Lance did that he liked like throwing with anticipation, standing in the pocket making a throw with pressure hitting you, leader, playing out of a pro-style offense. Lance did all that.

His accuracy was inconsistent in college as well though.

So was Josh Allen's. It was considered on the "you have it or you don't" traits, but obviously it can be improved.

Yea we all hope he can make the same strides as Josh. Many have tried. Many have failed.

He had one full season. He completed 66.9% with 28 TDs and 0 INTs. I'll take that kind of inconsistency any day.

It is just like Alex Smith, you cant put the genie back in the bottle with out damaging it. The media and the Fans only give so much before they start boo and write articles or twitter i suppose these days twitter. Just dont put your franchise QB though that.
Bill Walsh had alot to say about Montana and Young and why throwing them to the wolves was a really really bad idea. Particularly Young, we (the nfl) don't get a HOF QB in Young if he stayed in Tampa. It took years to fix the bad habits.
I pray they dont put Lance though that. I was 60/40 on Mac Jones over Lance, but they went with the much better tool set. You have a perfect QB to build up, so spend the time to build him. So what if he is on the bench all year. It is another season for him to grow, and it is another year for the coaches to figure out how to build an offense he will excel at. It is a win-win long term.
Did you honestly compare the situation Trey has in front of him this season to Alex Smith?
I get your point but Trey is coming in with a MUCH better roster around him and way better coaching. Smith was thrown out there to the wolves without much help and then things got worse when we kept bringing in new OCs every year and barely added any talent around to help him.
We kept Lance out last season to make sure he wasn't thrown to the wolves. He's ready and the narrative that he's not ready needs to F right off.
The only thing he needs now is game reps. You cannot get those sitting on the bench.

Nerves or over excited? The two are similar but vastly different.
