Softball treatment for 3-4 years? lol
Jimmy was on the team for 2 1/2 years and had less than 2 playing seasons when a portion of the fan base wanted him out after the SB.
so according to that timeline, Trey has a season and half left to prove himself, according to those same people.
Good luck kid.

Jimmy had what, 4 starts... Trey already has 2 in a quarter of the time. By webzone math he will be 4 times better than JG in his second year. Get excited!

Trey was worth 3 1st and a 3rd.
Jimmy was worth a 2nd.
by that math Trey gets 1-3 of the time to bEcOmEzZ eLiTeZzz

It depends on how he plays this year and/or how the team does. The NFC is weak this year and we face Russell Wilson one less time. I agree our schedule is tough this year, but I think we'll have a similar record to last year.
At a minimum, he has this year to prove he's not completely overwhelmed. If he's awful, he'll go into next season as the penciled in starter, but the writing will be on the wall for Lance, Shanahan, and especially Lynch. I think it's likely he won't be awful, since we've seen in play mediocre and good already.
If the team makes the playoffs, Trey will have 1+ years of rope (after this season).
If Lance plays well but the team loses key starters and misses the playoffs, he'll still get 1+ years of rope.
If he's the reason we make playoffs and he's a legit top-10 QB going into 2023, he'll have 2+ years of rope.

I think he'll have a very good season, best for a Niners QB since Kap's 2013 season.
His comp % will be worse than Jimmy's has been. But he'll score more TDs (passing and rushing) and won't turn the ball over as much. Jimmy had 18 total turnovers last season, including playoffs. I expect that number to be less with Lance.

He has the team around him so hopefully he doesn't make too many mistakes (work in progress)

Interception rate tends to stay pretty consistent from college to the NFL (although Trey did play against weaker competition), so hopefully the interceptions can stay down. A problem with Jimmy is also fumbles, I think Trey's escapability will help with that.

So I wonder if he told him that he was not ready.
You guys think Joe told Trey he wasn't ready? Or… pic.twitter.com/IrJtnMFKcg

That weaker competition argument is still the laziest there is. Jerry Rice played against weak competition at Mississippi Valley State. What a dumb idea to trade up for such an unproven prospect.

Actually QBs who scramble are more prone to fumble then those who don't. Prescott and Murray led the league in fumbles. Jimmy G was middle of the pack.

I'll bet they turn on Kyle before Lance. You got a taste of it last year after the Cardinals game Trey started. Lots and lots of criticism for his gameplan and playcalling and not a lot of objective evaluation for why it was that way.
On one hand he's a genius. On the other casual fans know better.
