Lances first two games were better than any rookie quarterback's first two games. His average fantasy points per game were the most as well not like that's a huge indicator however this narrative about him not being ready is a joke.
Some of those other quarterbacks drafted didn't have many more starts in college than Lance, weren't under center as much AND didn't have the autonomy to change plays in the huddle.
Some people really need to do their research before subscribing to this narrative which is complete b******t

did you not see him play in preseason? 50% passing. how many sacks? what are you talking about "fantasy points"? he wasdn't ready to start the season. That's a fact even ny85 won't argue. He was 21.
Whos talking about other qb's? i'm not talking about other rookie qb's. where are you coming up with that?

If we make the playoffs then of course Lance will have something to do with it. Only posters pushing agendas believe that a team can reach the playoffs without the assistance of the QB lol
Jimmy G was about as average as it gets last year, he didn't hold the team back from a deep playoff run but he also didn't elevate the team.
I expect Lance to have a similar season, not statistically but in general his plays will be emblematic of an average QB. But that's a huge step in the right direction, because Jimmy isn't getting better. He is who he is. Lance matching Jimmy's productivity in his first year starting at age 22 means there's expectation for further improvement.
We don't need to put down Jimmy to prop up Trey or vice versa.
Jimmy did some really good things that Trey will need to emulate and show consistently to help us win games.
That's the ability to stand in the pocket with the rush coming and getting the ball out quickly so our receivers can make plays.
He did that a lot on 3rd down as well and that was easily his best feature. Quick release and 3rd down conversions. I remember Calais Campbell praising him for it after the 2017 game vs that dominant Jags D. Campbell said he couldn't believe Jimmy was able to get that ball out on several plays for completions.
Now Trey may be able to approach similar plays differently, perhaps his ability to move will create bigger plays down the field but there is still something Trey can definitely take from Jimmy.
But all that aside obviously Jimmy had his flaws. We can argue about what or why they happened but it's fair to say nobody expected Jimmy to be involved in all pro voting last season. Trey will not have to carry the offense, he will have to manage it.
No reason to play hero ball with our talent. I'm confident that Trey can put in the work this offseason and help us win football games. I've brought up the Russell Wilson comp before, not in playing style but in the fact that Wilson won a SB with Seattle basically being a flawed passer. Ironic because he's a much better passer these days but they haven't won with him being an elite QB.
So Trey doesn't have to be Mahomes for us to win games. He doesn't have to be Tom Brady.
He just has to know the offense and make plays while limiting turnovers and managing the offense.

He protected himself fine against the Texans. You are cherry picking one start and extrapolating it to make definitive statements.

Trey just didn't get hurt. He wasn't protecting himself any better.

Trey deserves some blame. I am sure adrenaline got the better of the kid. But, Kyle deserves far more blame for that atrocious game plan.

100% Trey needs to get better at protecting himself. And, not diving into the back of his own teammate's legs.

Well for one thing Shanahan didn't design run Trey Lance as much against Houston which helped.
Secondly - so you are saying he won't learn to slide at all in the offseason?

I've been screaming about this since training camp. I have no idea. Why it has not been addressed. No idea if its on shannys checklist for 2022.
