Trey Lance start today?
I'm all here for it, but I highly doubt it. Even with The Sudfeld stuff yesterday.
The team did not elevate Sudefeld for a "game check," or because Kyle Shanahan is a "nice and loyal guy." That's BS.
Sudefeld was elevated for a reason. A game reason.
We will find out soon enough.

I'd be pleasantly shocked if Trey gets in this game.

I really wish they had been able to get more reps for Lance during the season. No matter how this season ends, Lance will be under a lot of pressure when he takes over. If they win the SB he'll be expected to maybe guide them back for a repeat. If they don't he'll be expected to finally get that SB win that they couldn't get with Jimmy. Either way it's not going to be easy for him.
Being pressured comes with the job as a QB. How will Lance perform under pressure and guide his team, because not every win is gonna be a blow out. Lance will take some L's, how will he handle criticism, not every reporter and fan is gonna give him praise. I'm praying this doesn't turn out to be another Alex Smith type situation, then again at least Lance has a veteran offensive HC with a playoff built team. Unlike Alex Smith who had a rookie defensive HC, musical chairs at OC and probably one of the worst defenses in the NFL at the time.
I'm concerned because he had so little experience in college and has very little playing time n the last 2 years. I would feel a lot better if he had at least a half dozen starts under his belt. You have to admit that as fans. we're going in with high expectations based on a very small body of work. I can't remember any 49er QB ever starting a season with so little experience. At least Alex Smith had 2 full seasons in college and played at a higher level of competition.
He won his team a late season must win game against an NFL team. I'll take that over any amount of college experience.
But it was still only one game and he beat an inferior team lets not kid ourselves that Houston had any chance of beating the 9ers. The NFL will get much tougher when you're a full time starter and teams have a full body of film on you.
Houston was having a late season surge when we played them
They had just upset the Chargers the week before
After our game they gave #1 seed TENN all they could handle in a 25-28 loss
The passing D of Houston is respectable and made Herbert look bad...it was not a "gimme" game for us
Early in the game they stopped our run and DARED SF to beat them with the passing game...we had NOTHING until the 2 min drill (more like 38 second drill)
When KS finally turned Trey loose to sling the ball the offense got rolling...most of our offensive production came in half a game of football
Then you take a look at it from our QB position
Rookie with little starting experience in a MUST WIN game or the playoffs are gone
Did he collapse under that pressure or perform?
I love it. Trey Lance starts and all of a sudden it's a tough team he was facing. Lol

Trey is soaking up advanced graduate Conference Champion playoff coursework now. Whereas Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones, and zack Wilson won't get that kind of advanced courseload for a good while. They will be in remidial class for the foreseeable future, with the exception of Mac Jones.
HONESTLY, of all the QBs that were drafted this year.. Only Baby Face Lance and Tiny Mac looked very very COACHABLE.
It's because they got drafted by really good teams with really great coaches.
NOT jus that, Tiny Mac looks like he just wants to win and is all in under Bill... while Baby Face looks so angelic and just want to be great..
Justin looked pissed when he got drafted by the Bears... while Surfer boy at Jacksonville just doesn't have any patience w/bs type of coaching staff

Won a do-or-die game in just his 2nd start against a team that had just destroyed the great Justin Herbert.

The future is bright.

Well Justin Herbert and the Chargers didn´t beat the Texans and guess what, that´s the win they needed to be in the PO. And now their coach has to answer every dumb question about his management at the end of this season.
So yeah, this Trey Lance kid helped a lot the team. And what I loved about that particular game is what happened after his bad interception. You would think that in a typical Shanahan ´s niners flat game, the kid would lose his confidence. Nope, he played the best football of his young career after the interception. And watching that game and specially the second half, it´s hard to not see the potential of Trey Lance.

If Trey were to somehow start there is no excuses. He is expected to be able to give this team the best chance to win and that would be because Jimmy is injured. I am of the opinion that Jimmy is starting this game but we shall find out soon

i gave you the context behind it
you can ignore it all you want
i am hopeful for the future...trey has super nova potential and i think KS will properly develop it

If Trey was going to be the starter next season how come Kyle hasn't been giving him any playoff time to blood him?

If you missed the KC/BUF game, watch the KC/Cinn game and you'll understand why we need a talent like Trey to compete for what Shanahan ultimately wants.

Can you think of one instance where a team brought in a rookie QB off the bench to get him some experience in the playoffs?

Cause this is Jimmys last hurrah. He wants Jimmy to finish out the season. Lance will be the starter next year.
