Shanahan also made a big deal about keeping him in the pocket to pass rather than run most of training camp. I think when he gets more experience more of his instincts will come through

Well yeah, he went #3 because the 49ers reached. That's sort of the point. His running is pretty disappointing given the predraft hype. He's not big/strong enough to run guys over and he isn't fast enough to beat guys off the edge.
It's sort of hilarious that we have posters here pointing to GPS as superior because it's real world data, when I can watch the actual f**king NFL game and see that Lance can't beat defenders to the edge, 1v1 in space, or even run guys over.
It's fine. He's going to have to be a pocket QB, but he has a looonnnnggg way to go, and his running ability was supposed to be a major positive to add an extra dimension to this offense.
Yeah I have no real issues with Lance but all the chatter that has gone on in here about how he is primed to be an "elite" runner at this level seems to kind of fly in the face of what he has shown so far, which is mostly getting stoned at the line of scrimmage or just short of the marker. He doesn't seem to have particularly quick feet or much elusiveness, just kind of barrels ahead. The idea that he will improve in this area seems a little off the mark as well. I mean if he were really an elite runner it would show. That kind of skill is something you will most likely have already developed by this time. I imagine it is possible to learn how to be a better runner in terms of developing patience and learning how to follow blocks but that's not the kind of running he will really be asked to do. What's needed more at the QB position is that kind of quick twitch athleticism of guys like Vick and Jackson. I suspect that is something you either have or don't. Not sure it's anything that can be learned.
I agree with both of these posters regarding Lance's running abilities.

He was only able to start drinking in bars a few months ago. He's barely an adult. To be honest I am impressed with what he has actually been able to do in such a short time. Go back to his pre-season games and then his 1st start vs the Cards, then his 2nd start vs the Texans. He improved drastically in each one.His QBR in the Texans game was higher than any of Lawrence, Fields, Z Wilson's starts this season. Yes it was the Texans but those 3 QB's played bad teams also.
And for Bama who said it's a diservice to the rest of the roster to trade up for a raw QB instead of using that pick to make the roster better. No what's a diservice is having the most talented roster in the league but still being underdogs in the majority of their games because of who their QB is, The Chiefs fans are praying they get to face us because in their mind they think it's going to be an easy win. Yes they aren't taking us seriously when we have Deebo, Kittle, Trent Williams, Bosa, Mitchell, Aiyuk, Armstead, DJ Jones, Ward, Warner, Tarrt, Eman, Kwaun, Azees, GreenLaw, Juice, etc etc. And it's because we have Jimmy G as our QB. This team is loaded but we never get any respect. Well we know why that is.

Also now what we gave up for Trey is cheaper. At worse one of these 1st RD picks is the 29th pick. Basically an early 2nd RD pick.

Yup I remember reading about this from the media and absolutely agree on that second part.

So we swapped first round picks by moving up
gave a comp 3 from Saleh
gave a 30+ first round pick
and a 2023 first.

Without mentioning the compensation that could come back from Jimmy that is only possible if you had a QB ready to go next year.

Yup, between Demeco and Saleh- I think Demeco is the better DC too!

Musing today on the possibility of Rodgers going to the Broncos. If he does, and I know it's a ways away, but Trey has a legit shot at becoming the best QB in our conference! Especially if Wilson goes to the AFC. Look at the quarterback talent in that conference, compared to the NFC. Unreal!

Without question Demeco is better than Saleh.

Right, most of the good young QB talent is in the AFC. If I were a good QB I would want to be in the NFC where the cupboards are almost bare and certainly lighter.
Trey should be getting the 49ers at least to the Divisional Round or Conference Championship regularly.
Otherwise any AFC team a good QB might go to would have to be stacked but just missing a QB (like the 2020 Buccaneers).

As much as I want that compensatory pick, I also very much like having a great DC, so I hope he stays at least another season to help us repeat.
