However, considering the Titans were starting 3 backup lineman and threw almost exclusively to A.J. Brown while max-protecting every play. They only had 3 receivers running routes almost the whole night. They couldn't run the ball at all. The fact that the defense didn't post a shutout in those circumstances is also appalling. There's no excuse for that.

Jimmy sucked. He threw 2 bad picks(of course one was after he tore a ligament in his thumb). But, he also tied the game and the defense couldn't stop A.J. Brown and Tannehill from scrambling to win the game or stop Brown from converting like 5 or 6 3rd and longs. THAT should NEVER happen.

All Jimmy had to do was not make those TOs or miss a wide open Juice. I don't expect our cream puff CBs to stop an pro-bowler like AJ Brown. I would expect our highly invested $$ QB to play better than he did that game.

The defense as a whole choked in the second half, but Jimmy by himself choked almost the entire game.

NFC West is the toughest division in all of the NFL. I think that may have something to do with the 49er injuries too.

Having said that, I hope both Seadderall and the Lams start falling behind the 49ers as their lack of success in drafting catches up with them. I do see Trey as the future dominant QB in the NFC west, one reason is that Kyle is his coach. I think the combination of Kyle and Trey - together - make a dominant offense that can take over the NFC west. If they can shore up the defensive backfield and add more depth at the OLine, hit again on some day 3 gems -- at some point, the NFC west will lose it's steam and become an ordinary division that I think the 49ers can dominate, like the days of old under Walsh.

And that one game might cost them the playoffs...blew 14 points before he injured anything, SF was steaming rolling before the RZ INT happened.
The titans have been squeaking by and I think if you flop their 3 pt or less wins, they're the 7th seed not the #1 seed right now. They're far from some dominant force

All you have to do is say a couple are fathers and the priest absolves you lol.

But you can't pick and choose games. Why focus on that 1 game? He essentially brought them down to beat the bengals in overtime. It is what it is. Lets just hope they beat the rams and make a run.

That's fair, the reason I point out that game was because it was looking like a steam roll up until that TO in the RZ. The titans had no business winning that game IMO.

I can't really blame the D much this yr, with the talent they've had at CB. We weren't gonna win games because of them IMO.

By not blaming them because of talent, you're recognizing they were a problem. You can still recognize they cost us several games while also not holding them to as high a standard.

That and having a new DC too.

We've gotten too used to our defense carrying this team over the last decade. It would sure be nice to have an offense that could return the favor in games where the defense struggles.
If this game was RIGHT after the Falcons performance from Jimmy, then I wouldn't feel as uneasy with him starting.

But after the Titans performance, and many others from previous weeks...I just don't feel comfortable with Jimmy, regardless if it's the Rams or whoever or whatever streak we have on them. I just feel like an idiot trying to convince myself everything will be all good with Jimmy. Especially with him coming back from injury... and if he did reinjures it during the game, will he force the issue and finish the game... instead of taking himself out?

The reality is, we only have a 1 game winning streak on the Stafford, OBJ, Von Miller led Rams. I hope we keep it going, but this is going to be the hardest McVay Rams game yet.
But back to Trey. You know after watching him play out there last week in a must win game... listening to him after the game, and then listening to him today...

I still can NOT believe this dude is 21 freaking years old.

That's exactly what McVay will be thinking as he's getting routed out of his own building.

thats what happened in the middle of this season the offense was dominating TOP and moving the ball consistently

Yup I'd like to see 5000 total yards out of the QB and 50+ TDs I believe Trey will get there. SF has always been about the quarterback make no mistake.

How many 5000/50 seasons have there been total? Maybe 4. Manning, Brady, Mahomes. I mean, if Lance can get to that level, the trade up for him will look genius!

Lol, yeah not the type offense I'm talking about. We need an offense that is capable of playing from behind. The clock controlling offense is great when EVERYTHING goes right. Tough to run when you're down and need quick scores though.

Well maybe not in the same year that would be an all timer but yeah Winston threw for 5000 and that was in a 16 game season. Now 17 games so 5000 isn't as big a number anymore. Indeed the top 6 QBs this year are all beyond 4500 pass yds. As for 50 TDs that may be a pipe dream but I could see him putting together double digit rush TDs in a season with his goal line power running. Plus the way things are trending the game just gets more offensive year over year.
I have stopped frequenting this thread, and so sorry if this has been posited before, but if shanahan's playbook and overall offensive philosophy is to largely remain the same regardless of if the quarterback is Trey Lance or Jimmy garoppolo, and if the primary if not sole reason for moving on from Jimmy was his health, then why the gamesmanship from shanahan this week with regards to which quarterback will be starting on Sunday? Shouldn't the Rams simply need to prepare the same way regardless of quarterback if the goal is to still hit a bunch of quick passes over the middle and not open up the field more vertically, horizontally, or with quarterback runs? Why would the Rams preparation and defensive game plan need to differ in a significant way for Trey Lance versus Jimmy garoppolo?
