i think they were two plays actually if memory serves me right. But i agree nothing to be concerned about maybe theyre more if he plays a better D?

just has to learn to put a bit more touch on some passes in some cases.

Trey about to be 1-0

Hate to be that guy, but I doubt it. Trey's game plays right into the Rams defensive strengths. Really hope Jimmy can go.

My bigger concern is our issues in the secondary. If Jimmie Ward and KW are out we're f'd.

I do agree that right now Jimmy is the better guy to play this Rams team BUT if Jimmy's thumb isn't right(and it won't be) I'd be very concerned that it could lead to turnovers which we absolutely cannot afford.

The reason Jimmy has been so good vs the Rams is because we haven't asked him to do much and let the running game do most of the work and Jimmy has made good throws on 3rd down, getting the ball out quick to keep the chains moving. If those throws are off the mark...does the fact that he get the ball out quick matter?

It helps that Stafford has been playing like poo.

He's thrown 6 picks in his last 3 games.

Matthew Clairmont.
The skillset is there. Now can you imagine after 2-3 years once the game slows down for Lance?

He's gonna be like...

Yup gotta be more decisive and a bit better at the short timing throws then he will be a potential top 5 qb there

How is it different than 2019? His pay was just as bad. It was Lynch and Co who wasted money this year on players who aren't contributing. Don't blame Jimmy.

No it was not just as bad...his cap hit in 2019 was $17M. I'm sorry what money did they have to work with in a covid off season? The cap hit took a $40M loss heading into the yr. They were able to resign Trent and Warner still though.

Jimmy was the 5th highest paid player this yr who had the single highest cap savings if cut out of any player in the league...I didn't want him cut, I thought a pay reduction made sense to help the team actually afford to get quality talent in here. Allow Jimmy to be a free agent next yr (instead of being traded to wherever) and gave him GTD cash before the season started.

lol he has a no trade clause. He isn't getting traded somewhere he doesn't want to be.

I imagine he'd want to go to the Saints, and they'd want him, if they can figure out their cap situation.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy's no-trade clause is voided after this season, March 2022.

Idk i have a bad feeling if Trey starts. I think the Rams defense is way too talented and too well coached for Shanahan's Trey-offense. There just isnt much creativity with the play calls. Its all Trey making plays when he can. With Jimmy, our run game and pass game gel so well and you can tell the defense is on its heels the whole game.

Defense would have to win us the game and I only have confidence in our defense to win us the game if Eman is able to play.

I think McVay gets midway thru the first half and it dawns on him that he picked a pocket passer who turns 34 in a month and KS has a young 21 year old dynamic playmaker QB who is miles away from his ceiling and still capable of lighting up LA. It'll be like the Hank revelation scene in Breaking Bad a real oh s*** moment.

I would definitely hope so. But i will agree with you that McVay is realizing that Stafford is not as good as he thought. Dude is like Jimmy with a bigger arm. Can sling it around but will make those bone-headed mistakes that can sink a game.

That's true, but that arm makes a measurable difference:

Fortunately we have a guy with a big arm who also showed in college he's good at protecting the ball. I only saw one questionable decision from him vs the Texans (the tight end leak), but a better throw would have made that a completion. And he at least admitted that the coverage was not ideal for the pass. So, I expect when Trey understands the NFL game, our turnover rate is going to plummet. So we'll have a QB who threatens the defense deep, but unlike Stafford will not be throwing Jimmy gimmies to the defense.

There was a nice breakdown Dan O. did on Trey on two exact plays, same exact coverages and him learning from 1 to 2. That in-game growth is exciting.

Yep, as a 49er fan I really enjoyed 30 wins and 13 losses, made for a lot of enjoyable Sundays. But it is time to roll with 1 win 1 loss now I guess, and that way we can at least hope and pray that someday in the future we will win. Hopes and dreams are better than wins.
only two winning seasons since jimmy has been here..

Dude dont play this card. I said a similar kind of comment and the usual suspects accused me of blaming Jimmy for losses he didnt play in. SMFH.
idgaf come at me.. my money doesn't get paused for wasted years cause jimmy can't play... not being accountable is just as bad as a loss

Does it get paused for years where Trey develops?

Yeah. Rookies, second year players are graded on a curve that 8 year veterans are not.

Could it be-- our youngling looking down the middle to hold that backer before he threw a dart to Aiyuk...

Yes that is precisely what he did, but honestly that's not that impressive. That's just being present and being coached well. Seeing the field, throwing with anticipation, reading the defense, those are far more difficult. Fortunately he came out of the box with anticipatory throwing ability. But he has lots of work to do still.

If we're being objective and less Faithful, I agree. He still has the slowest time to throw in the league and that's something the Rams front 7 can exploit. Plus, Brunskill and Compton. They'll be HIGHLY motivated to win and win the division on their home field. They'll take shots all day at our outside CB's too who lead the NFL with 19 P.I.'s.

Our DL has a chance to get to Stafford but it won't be as easy like it was against the Texans.

Little more film on Trey now too. Everything will come down to controlling the LOS, pass protection, scoring in the RZ and not turning the ball over. TOP will be extra big this game. Shot plays use up little time. Keep Stafford on the bench with long Garoppolo-like drives.
