Man, we miss that speed of Goodwin. They had great chemistry from the start too.
I guess "deep threat" can be viewed through different lenses. Through scheme where the speed or his lack of prowless to get deep doesn't matter and "respect" deep threat.
I'm talking about the respect players...the ones where defenders constantly have to respect the theat of a deep shot because of the speed or prowess to get deep and make plays consistently.
I think Kyle has been trying to replace Goodwin since he left with a slew of speed guys like Benjamin over the years but he hasn't found one yet...one that defenders are giving automatic 15 yard cushions out of respect for the deep threat. I think that element has been missing from Kyle's scheme which used to help guys like Kittle underneath a ton.
Does that make sense?

Great. I keep hearing that. So now let's see if that's true. It certainly wasn't when Jimmy got killed.

It's not just about speed. Juice isn't fast, but still found himself with no defenders in the same zip code. I've seen similar plays with Kittle. Yes speed helps a ton, but isn't the end all be all for taking shots deep. Kyle can scheme the s**t out of that, just need a QB that can deliver.

A speed HR threat is usually a decoy like how Goodwin was used to open underneath routes.
Benjamin and Sherfield are our current "speed" guys but BA has been running the decoy/clearing routes successfully with Jimmy G.
Kittle and Deebo and BA all been feasting on in brraking routes these last few games
It stops working when your QB cant or wont throw deep when defense squeezes the middle and leave sidelines and deep zones open
The trey v JG hypothetical gets a field test Sunday
Trey has already shown he can hit the cover 2 window in the sidelines

You're talking scheme vs. individual skill sets.
You and I can get open deep in a perfectly timed Kyle scheme.

No excuses. We traded the future for him. The future is now. Superbowl or bust.

Agreed, but we all knew Trey had the most upside of the top QBS but was the rawest by a big margin
