A ton of s**tty players have been carried to the Super Bowl over the years.

All this game did for me is reassure me that we made the right pick. He has all the tools to be a massive star and I believe Lance has the right mindset to reach that potential. So so excited about the future of this team.

Lol @ at the dummy haters in this thread.

Trey had an easy TD here to Mitchell. These are the type of plays where he needs to use his mobility to stress the defense with his legs but beat them with his arm. I can't count how many times Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson on these time of plays press the line of scrimmage to suck in the defenders, take a step or two back to buy an extra second and lob a pass over them for an easy TD.

It was fourth down.. so I don't blame him for not chancing a random dropped pass.

I do blame him for not diving for the pylon, instead of going head first into defenders. 😐

Yep that was super dumb by Lance. Just go up and over and extend the arms it's a 100% guaranteed EASY touchdown.

Zero reason to tuck ball in close to the body it and go low there.

Sadly that was the difference points wise in the game. 17-17 if he just extends arms over the goal line.

Start him the rest of the way. We can beat the Colts and Bears with Lance while he gets two more game experiences under his belt.

In the FCS he could run right through people without issue. Its not surprising he went with what he knew at that point. Call it a learning experience.

Damn looking at the replay he had space to easily just jump for the pylon. But yea, rookie mistake thinking he could bulldoze nfl players
If he had just flipped the ball to mitchell there…

he'll learn
What if the niners had taken Kyle pitts instead of lance ?

We'll have Sudfeld at QB.

Steve Young was mediocre in Tampa Bay, came to SF, and watched behind Montana. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Favre. Kaepernick and Mahomes both sat behind Alex Smith.

Peyton Manning started every game for the Colts in his rookie season because he was possibly the most NFL ready QB, maybe ever. Not every QB is gonna be like him or Justin Herbert. Alex Smith has said himself he was not ready to be starting in his first year.

Starting Trey Lance this year means that Shanahan is going to have to have him doing a Running QB gameplan, because that's his best bet to succeed this year. He wants Trey to develop his skills as a pocket QB. If that's the gameplan every week that the team is doing under Jimmy, he will learn a lot from observing.

And he can do that without the pressure of having to be The Guy.

Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers were sitting behind two HOF QBs on regularly contending teams. In both cases they played back up for several years in an era where teams could hold onto young QBs. The option of holding onto Trey for 3 years like GB did Rodgers before he's a full fledged starter just isn't there. Jimmy will be gone by next season whether anyone here likes it or not. So if Trey is starting next year let's get him his reps and prepare him because there is no way Trey has all of the time you're talking about to sit and there's no greater way to develop him out of gaining starting reps.

Josh Allen is his NFL spirit animal. Has just as much upside. Actually has more quickness in his running ability.

Then we'd have no QB to develop and no future and another losing season.

In the FCS, TD.

In the NFL, stonewalled. He'll learn.

s**t blocking didn't help either. Mitchell is a rook so I'm not gonna blame him - but whiff on the LOS forced Lance out towards the sideline.

82 (Dwelley) whiffed on that so hoorddd. Lance probably walks in if he gets a half decent block.
