If Trey shows progress, and he is Special, it would be worthwhile to let him play. If not, back to the drawing board.

High picks have not missed a year due to a pandemic, this is not close to normal circumstances. He is way behind the eight ball on passing attempts, games started, level of competition, etc. Starting him now is the worst possible situation for him and the team. Everybody wants to see the shiny new toy without realizing this will seriously hamper his ability to fix muscle memory problems. Starting Lance is not in anyway similar to starting Fields or Lawrence. Short term backyard football is only going to reinforce the negative habits.

The problem I see is that yes, we have a better offensive line than those teams but rookies and undisciplined QB's (see Kaepernick) leave their protection scheme and how it was designed to be blocked. That is probably the single most concerning thing that I saw in the second half of last weeks' game.

Trey kept moving around the pocket, weaving in and out between his blockers just a step or two away. His throwing motion is quite long and loopy so defenders stripping the ball before he throws it seems like a high-risk possibility. Kyle should scheme Trey to roll out more and move the pocket laterally so that AZ can't just tee off on a stationary QB.

Trey has to be much more accurate with his passes. If he keeps throwing high, he'll get picked off 3 or 4 times. Balls will bounce off fingertips, safeties will be right in position to make the play. Hope this week of practice has helped him work out some of the kinks.

Sure because a week of practice is all it takes.

A team with serious management dysfunction.

A couple mil for a number two while stashing your sophomore project? Come on that's not breaking the bank.

Yea i don't think a lot of people get the lack of experience maturity and age thing. Maybe including our front office. All draft picks are created equal right? He looks so big on tape.
Here are the four possible outcomes I see happening on Sunday:

1) Trey struggles, niners lose bad, Shanahan - "trey's not ready, Jimmy was hurt but he's still the starter when heathy and will start after bye"

2) Trey plays well, flashes big play potential but they lose - I think it's a toss up for who starts after the bye, but nod to Jimmy as "he's the winner"

3) Niners win (regardless of how Lance plays), Lance remains as QB1 because that's Jimmy's claim to fame, so if Trey can win against one of the best teams on the road (regardless of circumstances), he'd stay QB1.

4) If Lance lights it up (regardless of winning or losing, like 4+ total TDs and 1 or 0 turnovers) he stays QB1 because the media hype would deafening

LOL @ the OP. I get where you're coming from to a point, but these kind of real game reps are golden for Lance. Even if it means some bone headed plays and taking some lumps. If he is not ready Jimmy will start when he comes s healthy. This game is why Lance was drafted at such a high cost.

Did you see the preseason?

It is not the coaches choice to play. To be honest, it is the perfect scenario to be starting his first game. Would prefer more of a cupcake team, and maybe a home game, but you have to take the chance when it comes.

I think he will too, but that doesn't mean he will be great by tomorrow.

No, what I said was we should have a real "#3" option on the roster, who was really a #2, so we would not have to put a whole game on trey.

The whole reason for this is that we are supposedly in our super bowl window, so we need to win now.

You only get 53 roster spots. That is an unacceptable roster plan.

Honestly, I don't know how it goes. I see trey doing what he did last week. running around getting capped. I see a few big plays. If mitchell, goes we have a chance at scoring more than three times before garbage time. otherwise no. don't forget we have a scrub at kicker.

If the d plays the game of the century maybe we win 17-3 or 21-10.

That imo is completely impossible due to our brilliant defensive play-calling schemes which are known to to shut down star receivers for 60 minutes:

...soooo... get ready for 100 yards of pi.

Likely its a beat down and shanny discovers trey has a crippling hangnail and pulls him before he gets concussed.

Uhmmm....but the word you used was fastest tho,...and you directly correlated your meaning to one guy catching another by "chasing down" (i.e., speed). Speed isin't everything,...just ask The Footwork King.

Based one everything we have, tagging Russ as faster is just flat out false. You can be extremely nimble and not really be fast at all.

Honestly Dak Prescott might be the best comp for Lance in terms of athleticism and Dak certainly isn't any kind of slouch when it comes to his mobility

No he isin't,...never seen Dak move like Trey. But honestly, a comparison isin't required. We can resist the urge to "put these guys in a box and seal it off" as early as possible.

Pretty easy with no salary cap. Different story these days. Having a 2nd qb not being Trey makes no sense.

Even without the cap, yorks wouldn't do it.
