It will only get harder.

A 21 year old with 300 snaps experience should not be starting at the NFL level at the hardest position to execute in sports. every piece of tape on trey says the same thing. Yet, because Kyle hates jimmy for ruining his crystal palace game ideas, here we are. Completely preventable and avoidable with proper planning and foresight.

Our "qb 3" should be starting, with trey running the same situational packages that kyle has planned out since training camp.

But because our front office goofed, we don't have that option on the table.

Truth is, drafting the highest ceiling, least ready, youngest qb in the draft is a labor of love.

It needs to be planned for, and the player developed properly.

otherwise it turns into a windshield bug splat.

Hope it doesn't work out that way, but wouldn't be surprised if it does.

You are off your rocker…

point being it didn't have to be. Lets see how it goes. Maybe he'll make all the big plays and come out clean. Lets see what happens, Which is what the owners, nflpa and fantasy football people want.

You want to start Sudfield? Why? What purpose would that serve? Trey wouldn't get the needed experience and we would almost assuredly lose the game.

No, what I said was we should have a real "#3" option on the roster, who was really a #2, so we would not have to put a whole game on trey.

The whole reason for this is that we are supposedly in our super bowl window, so we need to win now.

Rushing him kills the chance to fix bad mechanics. I know why we are starting him, I just wish we didn't have to.

This was my contention all along. Keep Trey off the field as long as possible, knowing full well, JG and his injury hx. I had hoped it would be late , late in the season, and Trey would be further along. Unfortunately, here it is week 5 and he's starting. This is ill advised, IMO, but OTOH, not much choice in the matter.

I just don't want him to end up like Fields in CHI, getting a few measly yards in his first couple games and sacked, hit, beaten up every single game. Trevor and Zack Wilson…2 weeks ago, they each had 4 and 5 sacks and 4 and 5 INTs, or thereabouts. That certainly can't be helping their confidence and if one or two, even all 3 first 3 picks ends up ruined, it will be a shame. Good QBs make the league more fun to watch. But having all 3 of those kids starting and getting krapt beaten out of them, is not conducive to developing a good qB.

And that pretty well sums up my hopes for Lance. Good news is he has a whole lot better OL than all 3 of those other bottom feeder teams so maybe Trey can make it as a decent QB, even tho nowhere near ready. I sure hope so. I just don't want to see him get pounded and go backwards. I really hoped he could watch the entire yr…but here we are 5 games in and he's starting.

Kyle has mentioned he doesn't want to see firehouse football, but starting against Chandler and JJ? Just hope he avoids injury and slides with no headfirst antics. Right now i just want him to survive uninjured (think about the ramifications of that), and hope he doesn't reinforce his bad habits..both throwing mechanics and footwork.

It is depressing when that is the most important thing i am hoping for. Not even thinking about W/L. Just about our QB.

on the positive side, AZ has little or no tape on Trey, so there is that. Hopefully the OL gives him their super best and we see his upside. That would make for a great weekend. So, fingers crossed, hopes high and don't get injured, Trey…actually in reverse order..
If Trey succeeds the Coach is a genius, if he fails he was not given enough time. The current philosophy in the NFL is to play high draft picks ASAP. So, I go along with whatever Coach dictates. If Trey shows progress, and he is Special, it would be worthwhile to let him play. If not, back to the drawing board.

The drawing board meaning our super bowl qb

LOL @ the OP. I get where you're coming from to a point, but these kind of real game reps are golden for Lance. Even if it means some bone headed plays and taking some lumps. If he is not ready Jimmy will start when he comes s healthy. This game is why Lance was drafted at such a high cost.

My favorite philosophy in all my years following NFL, "Just Win Baby".

So you want to pay $27 mil for one QB, trade up for a rookie AND pay for a "real QB3", which team in history has done that?

The problem I see is that yes, we have a better offensive line than those teams but rookies and undisciplined QB's (see Kaepernick) leave their protection scheme and how it was designed to be blocked. That is probably the single most concerning thing that I saw in the second half of last weeks' game.

Trey kept moving around the pocket, weaving in and out between his blockers just a step or two away. His throwing motion is quite long and loopy so defenders stripping the ball before he throws it seems like a high-risk possibility. Kyle should scheme Trey to roll out more and move the pocket laterally so that AZ can't just tee off on a stationary QB.

Trey has to be much more accurate with his passes. If he keeps throwing high, he'll get picked off 3 or 4 times. Balls will bounce off fingertips, safeties will be right in position to make the play. Hope this week of practice has helped him work out some of the kinks.

A team with serious management dysfunction.
