Sure, once he gets out into the open field and he has a full head of steam, but he's not a guy that's outrunning defenders to the sidelines or juking them out of their cleats like Lamar Jackson does. It was the same deal with Kaepernick, although I think he was faster than either Jones or Lance. If you got him an open lane in the middle of the field, he was deuces, but it was painful at times watching him try to move laterally, something that Lance is better at IMO.

I think the Dak Prescott comparison is a good one, in terms of athleticism and even style of quarterback although Lance has a much better arm overall.

Some good comparisons. In the end it's going to be how well they process the field and make the best decision. Lamar has been figured out, just like Kaepernick was. The opposing teams understand their tendencies and have found ways to shut them down. Kyler is a thrower first, just like Dak and Wilson are. Kyler is just quicker and faster and has an even livelier arm. If we end up with Josh Allen in Lance I won't be angry.

GO NINERSSSSS !!!!

I'm jacked.

I'm expecting 2 to 3 roll outs BY DESIGN where Trey is to go deep over the middle !!!

KS needs to SHOW OFF this kids arm to keep all defenses HONEST... plus, them zebras be throwing flags after flags each time WRs are trying to adjust to the ball.. so I expect The NFL's Best Mind to finally figure this out..

IF Grappy wont go deep, then drop Baby Face Lance 10 deep and UNLEASHHHHH THE KRAKENNNNNN !!!!
More like unleashing Chandler Jones and JJ Watt. Or did you forget about those guys?

Yeah, because those two will be REAL effective chasing Trey on a rollout.

They'd blow up the middle. The other guys, like that safety they have playing middle linebacker, would chase him.

Maybe, but this particular conversation was about releasing Trey on a rollout and you argued that it was more like releasing these two other dudes. Who will literally play no factor in said rollouts.

They definitely can and probably will. It doesn't take being faster than the QB to disrupt a PA roll out. The QB starts the other direction. A great Dlinemen going against, for example, McGlinchey, could best his man and get a great angle on the fast QB.

But more importantly, the 49ers cannot simply do boot action all game.

Apparently he was tracked with a GPS tracker on a run during one of his last games:

Lance said he was wearing a GPS tracker, and it clocked him running at 21.54 mph on that run Next Gen Stats says that run would've ranked 12th among all ball carries, and first among quarterbacks last season.

And to follow that up...

"Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson's top speed of 20.14 m.p.h. is slightly faster than Cam Newton's 20.08. But in a twist, Wilson reached that speed playing some defense — chasing down Rams safety John Johnson III after an interception to save a touchdown.

So he's clocked 20.14 but not with the ball in his hands like Lance. The fastest Russell has clocked since tracking began is...

And as you can see, even Derek Car topped that time.

There's a big difference between quicker and faster. Lance easily wins the faster contest here. Advantage: Lance

On a roll out where the defense blows up the protection and has an angle on the QB, it's more important to be quick than fast. But even more important than that, what matters most of all is to quickly see the open man and throw it accurately.
I don't know what you all are talking about, dude looked like a video game character in surprise action. He has averaged a TD a game this year in super limited snaps. He's going to burn their house down.

Daniel Jones, he of the 4.81 40 time was clocked at 21.23 mph. Are you going to argue that Daniel Jones is more explosive than Lamar Jackson? Of course not.

Huge difference between someone with long legs who can run fast after building up for 20 yards and someone who is explosive right off the blocks. Trey is athletic but he's not Kyler, Lamar or Russell athletic.

Honestly Dak Prescott might be the best comp for Lance in terms of athleticism and Dak certainly isn't any kind of slouch when it comes to his mobility. if you go back and watch videos of him when he was at Mississippi State and then compare them to videos of Lance at NDSU, you'll see very similar running styles, very similar bursts. Physical runners that were tremendous in short yardage situations but weren't massive running threats like Lamar or Kyler.

This is really spot on.

I don't expect it. Was quoting BigMac who said everyone falls their first time. Was simply a counterpoint. That being said, I think Trey will be just fine Sunday.

I'm trying to keep my expectations realistic. He's raw and this is his first game. I just hope he gets at least one PFF Big Time Throw™. That would already put him ahead of Jimmy and should be enough for Kyle to give him the starting job the rest of the season.

Yup. Shanahan, first thing Monday morning, will be waiting to see if PFF graded Trey with any "Big Time Thows". That will definitely be his big indicator for whether he gives Trey the starting job the rest of the season. Man! You hit the nail right on the head.

Some of y'all where raised right by your momma.

Don't dream big because you will just be disappointed.

But I'm telling you, Sudfeld is going to get reps in this game Sunday.

Go Lance!

Interesting comments from Seahawks fans:

"You watched a different game then I did. I saw a future superstar with ridiculous talent. He looks like the second coming of Patrick Mahomes. He's a bit taller and faster and he has gun for sure. It will take sometime but San Fran has found the answer which is kind of a shame." - gabel

"He's not Goff, so, he's an improvement to the division by default. I thought he played well, though." - Threedee

"I'm all for feeling good about a win, but given it was his first real action, I thought he played well. I didn't put much into the comments about his throwing too hard. There was another qb that faired pretty well over his career who had the same issue. Brett Favre.

I thought Lance played well. The guy is certainly elusive, he's got a Canon, showed he can read a defense, and he didn't cave under the pressure of having to come out, to a home crowd, needing to bring his team back.

Certainly doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies thinking about what his ceiling might be in the coming years." - keasley45

"I see aspects of Young Elway, Randall Cunningham and Farve, it's about how coachable he is, and is his head on straight. All three of those had cannons as an arm and had to learn to develop some finesse passes. Cunningham had hell of a time getting used to the pocket and it took a injury to make him adjust, Elway needed a Coach to take the control from him and some injuries to get him focused along with some guy named Davis in the running game.

Those are guys that made it and were successes, Kaep had success but had issues developing further, Tebow, we know about, James Harris is another guy few remember but had to adapt and adjust, was a different era but he was really talented, Doug Williams another where he had to re define himself and change his mentality from when he was a QB in Tampa to Washington." - chris98251

"He looks like an unpolished Cam Newton.

But I saw enough to see that if he develops within Shanahan's offense, he could be a problem in a few years.

He had what, like 17-18 games started in college? So he's really raw. So it's gonna take some time, but there's enough to like if you're a Niner fan.....and definitely enough to be worried about as a Hawk's fan." - Sgt. Largent

"He's the next Lamar Jackson and will be a superstar in this league." - Jerhawk

"I saw a guy with a lot of physical tools. However, it takes more than that to be successful. I think there is potential there, but it looked like something that will need to be developed over a period of time. For the Hawks' sake, hopefully it's a LONG period of time. Nothing to be worried about in the short term." - DangerousDoug
