. So, they both suck?
Charted from PFF grades so take it with a grain of salt.
Tired of people just dismissing a stat because if comes from PFF.
True or False....the QBs having the better seasons are the ones in the upper right quadrant? You dont need to answer that. Its unquestionably true.
Why do people dismiss PFF? I mean I get it there are some head scratching outliers, but what other source is there as comprehensive as PFF for evaluating players?
If I am being honest, its mostly the Jimmy homers, but I have no idea why anyone would just outright dismiss PFF. Many people on here do. Its a great source for evaluating players. Is it the end all? No, nothing is.
For me, it's their grading system. For example, when a qb completes a pass, "as expected" they get, "0". Well, what determines, "as expected"? It's a player that's open and the qb finds them within time. The problem there is, we have a lot of dropback plays with 2-3 concepts in each play. It's up the the qb to determine pre-snap-post which concept to work.
But, according to PFF, if the qb identifies pre-snap to work the drive concept vs the smash, that's, "expected". They also have said that Shanahan is so great it's hard to credit a qb for passes to open players because, well, Shanahan.
Meaning they assume if the ball comes out in less than 2 seconds that was a called play by Shanahan.
Then, they give a qb credit pretty much every time they make a play outside of the pocket because they get a point for avoiding pressure.
So, a lot of it is up to the discretion of the evaluator if a qb is making a throw, 'as expected' vs or the qb is working deep in a progression. But they're admittedly not X's and O's guys.
Another example, last year at one point they had Trent Williams credited for 2 or 3 sacks and Williams said in house tallies had him at 0 because it was another player's responsibility.
