Aaaaaaagreed. Sliding will not only prolong his career, but always provides an opportunity for a personal foul.

. So, they both suck?

Charted from PFF grades so take it with a grain of salt.

Tired of people just dismissing a stat because if comes from PFF.

True or False....the QBs having the better seasons are the ones in the upper right quadrant? You dont need to answer that. Its unquestionably true.

Why do people dismiss PFF? I mean I get it there are some head scratching outliers, but what other source is there as comprehensive as PFF for evaluating players?

If I am being honest, its mostly the Jimmy homers, but I have no idea why anyone would just outright dismiss PFF. Many people on here do. Its a great source for evaluating players. Is it the end all? No, nothing is.

For me, it's their grading system. For example, when a qb completes a pass, "as expected" they get, "0". Well, what determines, "as expected"? It's a player that's open and the qb finds them within time. The problem there is, we have a lot of dropback plays with 2-3 concepts in each play. It's up the the qb to determine pre-snap-post which concept to work.

But, according to PFF, if the qb identifies pre-snap to work the drive concept vs the smash, that's, "expected". They also have said that Shanahan is so great it's hard to credit a qb for passes to open players because, well, Shanahan.

Meaning they assume if the ball comes out in less than 2 seconds that was a called play by Shanahan.

Then, they give a qb credit pretty much every time they make a play outside of the pocket because they get a point for avoiding pressure.

So, a lot of it is up to the discretion of the evaluator if a qb is making a throw, 'as expected' vs or the qb is working deep in a progression. But they're admittedly not X's and O's guys.

Another example, last year at one point they had Trent Williams credited for 2 or 3 sacks and Williams said in house tallies had him at 0 because it was another player's responsibility.

that play is what most likely got Jimmy hurt. a high pass, hows that for irony lol

No, it was the first throw of the game.....Trent Williams let Hyder get around and he stepped on Jimmy.

"He got hurt sometime in the first half," the coach said. "He said he got stepped on. I'm not sure which play. But he played for a while with it. He didn't think it was that bad at the time. Then about a minute before halftime ended, and trying to get it going, he just couldn't push off it. So, right at the end of halftime, we realized he couldn't go."

If Jimmy got stepped on, someone would have been able to come up with video evidence of this by now.

Its incredibly likely that he DIDNT get stepped on, and it just felt like he did (which is NOT good).

Thanks for sharing this. Still doesnt jive with "I tweaked it" like Jimmy said, but at least we can now pinpoint when it happened.

hahaha j. adams sucks. can't believe he wasn't called for PI on kittle.

Our coach even said it should've been a PI on Adams because they called the same one earlier against our defense. Pathetic

That's sweet. They should do some drills where throw to open receivers in stride too.

This is a decent tape of a 21 year old rookie playing 2nd half of a game where he was not expected to get more than a snap or two and didn't practice as a starter leading up to that game. He looked as good or better in the 4th quarter of this game than any of the other 1st round QBs did in week 1 and he was behind 2 TDs. Not to mention - all of those guys pretty much got most of the snaps in the training camp and were prepared to be starter in week 1.

Ppl really hating on the kid. Draft is over. It's ok if you were not 100% right or we didn't draft the QB you wanted - you don't have to give disingenuous takes on this kid. It's clear that he can play this game. He looked better in 4th quarter than he did in 3rd quarter and I think he'll get better than better after every 2-3 games under his belt.

...and I just don't see anything where I felt - he is more raw than other QBs drafted in 1st round. In fact - he showed nice poise on some of the runs. He also converted multiple 4th down on the last drive and made some nice throws. Yes, he also had some bad throws but that's to be expected.

I agree with most of what you're saying here. Trey Lance did alright, all things considered. Two things undeniable at this point, Lance seems to ha e a penchant for big plays and he's got a looooonnnngggg way to go processing defences and progressions.

At this point, you have to be a little bit anxious that they screwed the pooch in passing on Mac Jones as he looks quite good.

I'd be pissed still right now if we took Jones at 3. Dude just not worth that.

He was worth #12 though and if all four qbs were gone I wanted us to draft him at 12.

Just not 3. And not for 2 additional 1sts and a 3rd. Hell no.
My god if trey is even half of what Herbert is I'd be so happy and we could work with that.

take into consideration this kid will play 17 road games a year and he's still tearing it up. That stadium has no fans.

also I'm rooting for the chargers cus our boy Steve young has owned them for years. Ba dmm tsss

And you feel good that we gave all that value for Trey? I think reasonable minds can disagree on who will be a better QB for the long haul between Jones and Lance, but I think both of these guys were going to be available at 12 with no extra draft capital required. How about a more modest trade to the Philadelphia Eagles at 6 if you're really feeling antsy? I've beaten this drum to death. Just please work intensively on Lance to develop his passing. He's a natural athlete with the running and only needs to be taught how to slide and use the sideline to preserve his health.

Not a chance in hell lance and jones would be there at 12 IMO.
