I think he'll be the starter by mid-season.

hopefully because jimmy gets hurt and not because we're 0-8

Ideally for everyone involved - Jimmy stays healthy and balls out this year - and Niners make playoffs. Kyle sprinkles in Lance 5-6 plays a game.

We trade Jimmy in the offseason next year - recoup a 1st rounder and have Lance become the QB next year.

Not worried at all if Lance is basically sitting out 2 years in a row. He's gonna be 22 in 2022 summer. Not uncommon for college QBs to sit out 2-3 years before playing. Not sure why it'll be such a huge concern for Lance.

That would likely mean we would get a 1st rounder higher than the one we traded for Lance.

I think he can execute at least 50% of the offense right now, simply from a mental point of view. He played basically in Kyles system at NDSU where there were a lot of similar plays. Agree that he is too raw to start, but i don't doubt that he can catch on very fast from just the mental perspective of play calls and basic boot plays etc.

Where I think he will take a bit more time is just playing with faster, stronger, more football intelligent players who can fool you with their athleticism as well as their brains. The speed of the NFL will take a bit of time for him to get accustomed to.

He'll be playing against Fred and that 49er defense every day in practice. I hope that accelerates his development the way Josh Allen and all those other college players who had flaws in their game, but once they got better coaching, became super stars.

lol what? Just because NDSU ran more snaps from under center than most colleges doesn't mean Lance can run 50% of Kyle's incredibly complex playbook from day 1. He has only attempted 318 passes since high school. Most college QB prospects have over 1,000 entering the draft. He is the most raw, inexperienced young QB ever drafted in the 1st round.

I definitely think he can catch up, but he needs to sit and learn for this entire season for sure. He's incredibly smart, so let him study this year and get in on a few plays designed for him to get his feet wet. We should follow the exact blueprints the Chiefs used with Alex Smith and Mahomes.

IT'LL be Green Bay Aaron all over again.. because that will force KS & JL to stick with JG using the excuse that Trey isn't ready yet..

aaron wasnt taken 3rd overall though

I'm talking about Aaron and Love... Aaron played so well (as you should know) that Green Bay couldn't make any excuses to insert LOVE for some playing time..

NO ONE is going to like it if JG wins us a Super Bowl and be the league MVP then gets replaced by a 2nd year QB with a very high POTENTIAL..

First of all while I'm still a fan of Jimmy as a person and a player... he's not Aaron Rodgers and Lance isn't Love who wasn't even the Packers 2nd string QB.

Second IF Jimmy plays well enough to win league MVP his trade value would clearly be at his peak and we'd move his ass in a second.

Rodgers also didn't win the SB.
Lol, people are asking what we'd do if Jimmy G wins us the Super Bowl next season. Sounds like a problem I'd love to have.

At that point, we can ride Jimmy through the end of his contract (if Jimmy G does ball out next year, I can see him starting in 2022 as well). More likely, it will greatly increase his trade value and we can move on from him then. Jimmy G playing well is what we expect next season. And if that happens, great. And if it doesn't happen, not great, but at least we have a contingency plan in place.

And if Jimmy wins us a Super Bowl, we'll all be celebrating number 6, Jimmy will be immortalized as a Niner forever, and our future will have learned everything that comes from winning outside of the play on the field.

I get that he was older and did have more college experience, but Wentz actually only started for two seasons at NDSU. If he impressed the Eagles enough learning their offense to trade Bradford during preseason I don't understand why Trey wouldn't be capable of doing the same.
