That 4th and 1 play where he rolled left, then cut back in and found Deebo for the conversion. He's got that ability to find an open man.

He always seems to be getting better. He already looks much better than he did in the preseason.

The way he kept feeling the pocket collapsing and how he stepped up and ran forward through it was a great sign. Most young QB keep moving backwards and start running towards the sideline when things break down.

I agree. There were quite a few positive things to take away from his game against Seattle. Now he just needs to continue to build upon those and keep getting better. I am really excited to see how Shanahan game plans to feature Trey's strengths.

I see Kyle changed from his outside zone to more inside/power to fit the strengths of Sermon. That really showed Kyle's willingness to adjust to his personel which is what I was criticizing him about last week after the GB game. Hopefully its more of the same kind of adjusting going from Jimmy to Trey this week. Imo, It took one game too long to adjust from Mostert/Mitchell to Sermon.

Sermon has shown much improvement. I was thinking he is starting to get the outside zone better, but didn't realize it could be that Kyle is running more power lately. Could explain why we aren't as explosive offensively as we should be.

I am not saying Sermon cannot improve with the outside stuff but he will never be as explosive as Mostert. He simply just doesn't have the speed.

Yeah Sermon's kind of a change up back. I think we drafted Mitchell with the intention all along that he will be our bread and butter, but it just so happens that power backs are still valued higher than speedy zone backs. That explains why they were picked where they were. Just a theory tho

Things I want to see Trey improve on against AZ:

1. Get to your checkdown - I like that he keeps his eyes downfield and he's shown the ability to move thru progressions but you don't need to look for the homerun ball all the time. Checkdowns are good for keeping rhythm and getting positive plays when nothing is open downfield

2. Stay calm in the pocket - He wasn't bad here considering the pressure he was under, but the nerves he had manifested in the inaccurate throws he had. He settled down towards the end and he threw some good balls. I'd just like to see him be more comfy from the start.

Regarding your 2nd point, he was actually calm in the pocket. His movement in the pocket was actually excellent and natural for a raw player like him. (Kap was athletic, but he never really developed this pocket movement). I was actually very impressed by this part of his game yesterday. He can really buy time with his movement and athleticism.

The pass protection was fine, but the issue was he held on to the ball far too long on most plays. I think the issue was him not making the right pre-snap read and thus on the vast majority of the play he didn't throw on his first read.

You're probably right, and what I was seeing was actually better articulated by your description. It's really hard to read where he's at right now given the limited playtime he's had, but he looks very promising regardless.

Lord. You can justify anything.

You do understand the difference between justifying a decision to throw the ball away and saying a QB inaccurately threw to his WR, right?

I mean that's as basic as it's going to get here,...lol. It can't possibly get any clearer. No clue why you're trying to fuse the two together.

NC?

What's going on here?

I said that you're being subjective (this is "fluke" but that isin't "fluke"), but you don't seem ready to comprehend or face it. That's not attacking you. Now that that's out the way...

Everyone is subjective, including you. . You spent over a year making frequent criticisms of Garoppolo and fighting with other posters in that thread, now you're in here attacking anyone who dares make the slightest criticism of Lance.

Lay off the personal comments towards other posters, you've been warned several times in the past, there won't be anymore after this.

Bingo.

Trey Lance - 4 TD (3 pass, 1 rush) 0 turnovers, 46 snaps

Mac Jones - 4 TD (4 pass, 0 rush) 4 turnovers, 265 snaps

Justin Fields - 1 TD (0 pass, 1 rush) 2 turnovers, 150 snaps

Zach Wilson - 4 TD (4 pass, 0 rush) 8 turnovers, 253 snaps

Trevor Lawrence - 6 TD (5 pass, 1 rush) 9 turnovers, 254 snaps

Lance is elite in the red zone, that's for sure.

Zac Wilson with the 8 Ints already. Lawd

For his experience level in college, the fact that hes been this efficient over his first 46 snaps is pretty good. Lawrence had all that experience and was touted as this cant miss, NFL ready guy, and he hasn't taken care of the ball so far.

Lance has a legitimate shot at being the best QB from this class. Obviously its a huge boost to be on a good roster with a skilled offensive head coach. Fields, Lawrence, and Wilson will be fighting uphill battles to overcome a bad roster. Fields has ability, but it might be wasted in Chicago with nobody there to help him develop. Nagy is just trying to keep his job.

That is true about speed backs vs power backs. As long as the back has exceptional speed and vision, Kyle can get the most out of them and has shown as much. Usually a win win for this team when it comes to production vs price tag. Anyway, don't want to get too far off the subject of the thread but definitely appreciate the convo though.
Rookie of the year if he plays the rest of the season?

And of course this post has already brought out the usuals.

Again, after the game when asked, Trey said this was a throw away. I pointed this out when this gif was first uploaded here, but that's not gonna stop some posters.

But like Kap, some fans in here will continue to use gifs of throw away passes to discredit the QB.

Sorry, but Trey was referencing his 2nd throw of the game, not this throw, when he was talking about the throwaway.

Your first pass to TE George Kittle was low. Your second to WR Deebo Samuel was high. I mean, obviously you kind of shoved in there. Were you able to settle down a little? Was some of that nerves or adrenaline or excitement?

"I don't want to say nerves or adrenaline or anything like that because I've been in games before and I'm thankful for that and I was prepared for the situation, I felt. So for me, they're easy throws, like maybe thinking too much on the one to George and the one to Deebo was probably a throw away more than anything, trying to save Deebo.
Reposting to the right thread:

I wanna see Trey play game manager for a game or 2. We know he can make big splash plays, no doubt there. The next step in his development is to just manage the game, no need to light up the stat sheet especially if our ground game is working. If he can have a Mac Jones type game while we still win next week, I think it will do wonders for his confidence and comfort in the offense and just playing in the NFL. After that, then he can open it up more. Russell Wilson was very much a game manager in his rookie year that made splash plays when called upon. I think if Trey can do that, then this season can be salvaged

Rewatched his plays several times. Accuracy issues, some ill-advised throws into coverage w/dudes open on other reads, resorts to his legs frighteningly often. I'll attribute some of that to nerves, for sure.

Doesn't have the quickness of Jackson or the tackle breaking of Wilson, but he's more mobile than Jimmy. Good zip on his passes, didn't air mail Deebo on the totally blown coverage play.

Overall, I think its going to be a bumpy ride for the next few weeks, at least.

But I expect it.

It's going to be the Josh Allen route imo. An inexperienced small school guy with plenty of intangibles. He'll play good at times and look down right terrible the next few times. He's got about the same mobility and arm strength as well. I really don't think we'll know what we have until the end of year 2 to year 3.
I just don't see it

Bingo.

I shied away from Phoenix's threat to Random initially because I haven't seen all of Random's previous posts... BUT I have seen Random and NYNiner85 get personally attacked on here a few weeks back... with no warnings dished out. (That was publicly stated at least, like Phoenix just did)

Again I initially shied away because that's not my business... but with NCommand trying to piggy back on here... I sense the same BS from years back creeping up again. Certain Mods knowingly (or unknowingly) not treating posters the same, and then certain posters taking advantage of that and jumping on other posters... as well as inciting them....because they feel certain mods have their back.

Also I don't think this is true.

"now you're in here attacking anyone who dares make the slightest criticism of Lance." I don't know why it needed to be exaggerated like that.

Excited to see what the kid can do with a full week to prep and gameplan.

Havent seen an update on Trent Williams and doubtful he's gonna play this Sunday but I still like our chances vs Arizona. I'm not confident and can certainly see Arizona beat us but this feels similar to last year when everyone counted us out after the Miami beating as we were going in to play the Rams.

Hope the guys are up to the challenge. That goes double for the coaches.
