Nobody will take Ryan's contract off ATL's hands. Especially because of the cap expected to drop next year nobody will want to touch him in the trade market. QB is our biggest need, and Lynch has to be aggressive to get the best one possible. We're gonna lose lots of games, and hopefully some of the teams ahead of us win some so we can move up the board. We need a QB like Wilson to compete in this division long term.

I'm with you that we need a young QB to Coach up for the future. I just can't see it being Wilson who is going top 5 in the entire draft regardless of position. We don't have the ammunition to trade up into that space.

We are gonna end up in the top 10 for picks. Trading up with a team that doesn't need a Tackle or QB is completely possible.

What do you mean we don't have ammunition to trade up? You can easily use 2022 picks for that.

I'll leave the evaluations until after the combine and see what the scouts think. He looks good in the games he's played but they haven't played anyone. Boise State was supposed to be pretty good but they only had 2 games under their belt. Both wins came against bad teams. BYU has only beaten a bunch of losing or sub .500 teams in a crappy division so Wilson isn't facing a lot of great competition. That's why I want to see what the scouts say after the combine and have a chance to evaluate him close up. He may be as good as he looks. Then again.

Yes level of competition is super important...for me he makes big boy NFL throws though. It's not like he's just tossing it to wide open guys. These are top end throws. He has swag, leadership, and is very smart.

Combine isn't gonna show me anything as far as QB play goes. He's not gonna be the biggest/strongest/fastest guy in the world.

I hope he's really good and we end up drafting him. However, I do put more emphasis on level of competition than some people do. It's like the difference between passing for 300 yards against the Jets and doing it against the Steelers or the old Legion of Boom. I think most QBs in college have the physical skills to play in the NFL. Lot's of them can throw the ball well enough to complete most of the passes. What really separates the great ones from the average ones is the ability to quickly process information and react in one or two seconds to what'a going on around them. They need to see the entire field in order to make those great plays we all like. Not just the first or second reads but the guy that is wide open because a defender fell or got caught out of position. The ability to extend plays by avoiding the rush long enough for someone to get open. These are things that players that compete in lower lever conferences don't have to do as often since they usually aren't facing the top tier defenders every week.

The drills they run at the combines and what the coaches see at the Senior Bowl can give them a little extra info that they might not see during games. Like I said, I wouldn't make my decision based on combine measurements but sometimes they can answer some questions that might still be there. They say that good players rarely drop far based on combine results but average players can really climb. It's just one more tool.
can he drop it into a bucket or have some air under it ?

Steve Young talking about Wilson today...

"The kid is a really good player," Young said Wednesday on KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "I mean, I'm not going to say he's Patrick Mahomes, but I'm saying he plays like Patrick Mahomes. There's no throw he can't make, and he's just intuitive and really present when he's playing. Every week, you're like, 'Wow. This is something good.'"

"There's no question that he's capable (of running it)," Young declared. "The more they ask of him, the better he gets."

That's good because Shanahan's offense tends to take some time to absorb and master.

"He has the grit," Young continued. "He's a kid that Friday practice would end at noon, and then during COVID, and then he'd get in a car and drive down to get that special tutor(ing) from (QB coach) John Beck in San Diego. He'd drive down every weekend, and then come back on Sunday night for like six, seven, eight weeks. He's super serious about it.

"I think he's going to go in the first round. I don't know; he's the kind of kid, when you watch him, you go, 'Wait a second. Why is he not maybe the first guy (drafted)?'

"I get that Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are phenomenal football players but the more I watch this kid, I don't see flaws. I don't see problems."

listening now

I love listening to Young talk about football

i meant more of a russel rainbow in the bucket throw. a lot of those zip line throws can bounce off hands and PBUs in the NFL. I like the highlights in the thread, but can he throw it over the DB and let the receiver run to it where only the WR has a chance to get it. then i'm sold

Mmhmm. We have future picks to sell to move us in the draft to get us Z. Wilson. That's all the ammo we'll need to move up. Dallas imo is the best trade partner for the FO to look at. They've already got their QB in Dak, and could land a bevy of picks by trading down in order for us to get our FQB.

That's who I'm eyeing as well as the Giants. They can take our trash (Ward, Ford and Ahkello) if they want also. Ahkellos old college teammate can vouch for him on the Cowboys.

That division could get wild down the stretch. They're all still fighting for the division. Regardless of where we are picking, it will take a team in the top 5 to trade with for us to get him though

The #3 slot is all John should be concerned with. Get up to 3 and you will hopefully land your franchise QB.

i wouldn't settle at 3 if you don't know which QB you want. unless the guy you want is there at 3
