We have no idea what the truth is.
I hope he comes back and plays out his year, rocks it, and earns a huge contract with another team next season...or forces the 9ers to trade Aiyuk to keep him.

Jedrick Wills if he's fully healthy. Won't cost 18 mil like McKivitz will.
I think Mckivitz is going to get a lot on the open market, more than $18M. I think it'll be closer to $25M a year.
next year, our o line will look very different
Trent - Colby - Nugent - Puni - *rookie*
that's my guess. I hope we get some promising young tackles in the next draft cause we need someone to eventually replace Trent too.

I'd rather Ben Bartch be the center in 2026, I don't think Nugent is ready yet, rookie or journeyman tackle at RT, and yeah McKivitz is going too end up getting at least $20M a yr IMO, and don't be shocked if Burford gets a Jaylon Moore like deal, $15M a yr over 2yrs, not with us though, no way they're paying either McKivitz or Burford anywhere near $15M-$25M a year

We're only paying future HOFers or perennial All Pros. Everyone else will be a draft pick or cheap vet

So JJ can fake injured and receive his whole contract minus incentives. Ouch
Doesn't he have to play six games for his contract to toll? Does the contract toll if they put him on IR for the year?
What signal does that send to other teams though? Think other teams would decline giving him a big contract after doing that?
OR - the 9ers could acquire a injury insurance policy for JJ that would make him comfortable to play this year on his existing deal?
Sour precedent for the whole league if he forces a trade -- his new team would have to give up a pick and pay him his new demand.

It doesn't matter. They will let him walk, get the compensatory draft pick, and replace him with a player already on the roster, cheap FA, or a draft pick.

I think Nugent showed he's overmatched at the job. I'd guess Moss at center.

He loses out on performance bonuses. I think there are procedures the team can take to take the money from him, but teams don't want to do that because it will mess with their future free agency chances.
A trade seems really unlikely to me. I don't think any team will offer the 3rd for him the 49ers can get just by letting him sign elsewhere next year. Maybe they can get someone to offer 3 6th round picks for him and they'll go for that :)

Oh yeah, or moss at center. He seems to show a lot of promise.
TRENT - Colby - Moss/Bartch - Puni - *Rookie*
that lines up more. I'm glad we have a couple promising young guys to fill some roles. It's felt like the last few years we just had trash on our depth.

That's the way it's been here for a long time.
we pay our best players (except defo) what they deserve. If your play is able to be replicated by others, specifically a cheaper version, than you're not getting repaid.
the nfl draft is so important in today's league. If you don't draft well - it messes your whole team up. Between the Trey Lance trade and kinlaw etc - we've created some big holes on the team thatve bit us in the butt. We've drafted so many d line guys and really only have had bosa to show for it (outside of the new rooks).

We already saw with aiyuk what happens when you don't practice all off-season. I expect very little from JJ over the first month of the season

(sorta telling my age now, I just thought his ranking might mean something for the younger ones that play the fantasy football game.)

I don't play Fantasy Football but for what its worth Juan was the highest ranked 49er WR (not counting Kittle).

That's probably the most disappointing aspect of this whole situation. What can we really expect from him in a week after taking nearly the whole summer off? Even the last month.
we needed him most in the first 4 weeks and he's let us down, most likely. bummer. I love him as a player but just sucks
im hoping for the best but reality kinda tells me to not expect much, if anything from him. He better be ready though cause he needs an awesome season to cash in how he wants

If he's "injured" it will not roll over. However if he's basically a hold-in type all year he's going to collect the salary he's not thrilled with here while doing himself a monster disservice going into free agency.
The best thing about JJ is his passion for the game and his ability to play it at a constant 100%.
If he sits out with what everyone pretty much suspects is a made up injury I can see other teams questioning if his commitment is changing at the same time who in their right mind would pay a WR who will be 29 when next season starts when he's never cracked 1000 yards in a season and outside of last season his career best was a 416 yard season and a 5 TD best during a 282 yard season.
Simply put that's not a resume for teams to invest big $ and long term in.
Now if he goes out there and shows last year is more indicative of his potential…then he can get the big $ he's pushing for here. That is his only path to seeing those numbers. Nobody in their right mind will pay him like WR1 and unlikely that he even gets WR2 money without a big year this season. To get that big season…he's gotta play and play early.
