Lynch is just going to tell Kinlaw to save that FIRE for the game, just like he did as a NFL safety. Nancy got the message, maybe he will lay off acting like a entitled f**kwit for awhile. Too bad he wasn't CHOKED like the scared chicken he is LOL!!!!

First off, I am a fan of Grant Cohn, and an avid watcher of his Youtube channel. Matt Maiocco's show puts me to sleep. Grant calls out those that he thinks are doing well and also those that underperforming. He isn't just negative, but like his dad, drifts that way more than I think is fair. For example, reviewing Trey Lance's performance on the one day available to reporters was quite positive.

What is strange, is Grant Cohn hasn't said that much about Kinlaw. Cohn's opinion of his is that he was overdrafted and hurt most of the time hence not helping the team. It's not like any of that is controversial. Contrast that with his coverage of McGlinchey where even Grant admitted that he took it too far.

Piecing together what happened, here are the events:
1. Kinlaw approached Grant on the sidelines (Grant can't approach him currently as a reporter as Grant is limited to where he can go).
2. Kinlaw stood next/behind him, and gave Grant a stare. A couple of words were exchanged where Grant thought maybe he was joking, and then Kinlaw knocks off his hat.
3. Grant admits that he is quite happy with the turn of events as it benefits him when he becomes the story. Pro players ignoring him costs him money; Pro players making a big stink about his reporting publicly gives Grant more views and more money.
4. Grant was doing his public review of the day of OTA on Youtube which included coverage of the Kinlaw incident, and Kinlaw himself joined the channel. Grant gave him a link so that he could join the show, basically a Zoom meeting watched by thousands online (and tons more later for sure).
5. Kinlaw was barely coherent (was he drunk?) calling Grant names and liberal use of the F word. Kinlaw's main argument seemed to be that he is a real person with a family, and Grant should not talk about him. Grant told him that he couldn't do that since it is his job. After a few minutes of Kinlaw ranting, Grant opted to end the call and end the show (he was preparing to end before Kinlaw joined).

My personal take:
1. I haven't heard Grant say anything about Kinlaw that was beyond normal media coverage about an underperforming player. Does Grant tend to focus more on the negative? Sure, but it wasn't like Grant was making it personal and calling him a girl or something.
2. Grant's Youtube channel is going to get a ton more views, as this will be covered by national media now.
3. Kinlaw's behavior was unprofessional and he will probably be disciplined by the team. It was not a good look, and a player putting his hand on a media member is not something that the team can tolerate. There is even a slight chance that the league may get involved.
4. I am a little worried about Kinlaw. Something is wrong when such a slight provocation gets such a large reaction from a person.

He went too far by smacking off his hat but that's not a major crime. It sucks that he lost his cool but then again Grant is such a little s**t he gets under most peoples skin. After a while it adds up and some people need to be put in check just like Javon Kinlaw said at the very beginning of the interview when he called in. I appreciate his eagerness to call this guy the troll that he is he just should've kept it at a sensible back-and-forth instead of all the other childish threats.

He didn't make any threats, he just talk s**t to Nancy. Nancy did the same thing, talk "unnecessary" s**t about a man and a professional football player whose injured at his job whose trying to heal up and comeback and do his job better.

PROVE NANCY WRONG, AND NANCY WILL DISAPPEAR AND BE NOTHING EVEN MORE WOULD BE MY BEST ADVICE TO KINLAW.

Yeah but the trolling on other players will never stop until everyone stops following him, he gets fired from SI or not allowed access to the niners.
Grant Cohn " I want a bunch of bad things to happen to this team, It gets me clicks"

Grant Cohn" Why don't these players like me?"

Kinlaw went too far but why should any player on this team show Grant any kind of respect when he shows none? An old saying is to get respect you have to show respect.

I am still baffled at how this guy has so many followers that are suppose to be diehard Niner fans. This clown trashes your team 90% of the time and has even admitted that he feeds off the negative stuff. The guy is profiting off the bad things that happen to your favorite football team.

Some people are actually a fan of Cohn more than the Niners which is really weird. I enjoyed what Kinlaw did. And I laughed when the poster above thinks that kinlaw was drunk. Smh probably a little rac… nvm.

You should probably actually start listening to Grant. What you describe above is not Grant Cohn. He doesn't trash the team 90%, in fact he doesn't trash the team, he condemns individual people. Players that play well get his praise, those that do poorly get his condemnation. He does profit over controversy, but admits he would rather the team do well. Controversy gives short term boosts to media clicks, however long term you want a winning team as it increases the size of the fanbase, increasing the potential pool of people that will tune into the sports media.

As an example of Grant Cohn's coverage, take a look at this most recent article:
https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/the-good-and-not-so-good-from-week-1-of-49ers-otas-2022

8 positives and 5 negatives. That is most certainly not 90% negative.

I think this is a good assessment. I was on Reddit 49ers forum asking what Grant has said that is beyond the scope of a normal reporter and didn't get anything. Grant listed the stuff he has said about Kinlaw (e.g., injury prone player, misses games, two down player at best, not a great value pick) and I don't see anything that he has said that isn't true.

What concerns me about this incident isn't Grant but Kinlaw. Anyone watch the video? Kinlaw is saying at the end of the video "I'm not the one" and repeating it. I took it as meaning "I am not the person to screw with and don't talk about me or else". In context of the sideline bit earlier in the day I would be very concerned if I were the 49ers. They can't have a player act like that and represent the team as if he's some soldier for a gang on the streets. I give Grant credit for remaining calm in the mist of Kinlaw's rant. I was amused in the middle when Grant said, "do you think you are representing the 49ers well right now?"

I hear this narrative about Grant and the 49ers. I don't get it. Grant calls out players who aren't performing or crazy things the 49ers do as an organization that I see many people on this forum say as well. Here's a list of Grant's top issues: Jimmy is an average QB who is paid too much; we drafted a Trey Lance and sat him; Kinlaw is injury prone; Dee Ford is injury prone and the 49ers didn't do their homework in trading for him; Kittle isn't the same player since signing his big contract. I think most of what he says is fair and frankly the stuff he focuses on are important for the success of the team. Is Grant a troll? Sure. Most reporters are trolls in some way and create narratives. Grant is just doing it more successfully via YouTube.

Cohn is a troll. Some people may like him, good for them. I can´t even listen to him. Kittle doesn´t seem to like him either which should tell something.
When Cohn says that Kittle is not the same player he was before signing the extension, he ´s just wrong. Will Grant admit it? Of course not.

I don't think the drop off in play was as significant as Grant seems to think but not admitting to the drop off is wrong as well. We have to throw out the 2020 injury plagued season for Kittle and do an assessment of last year (post-new contract) and the last few years before the contract.

Last year Kittle had 71 rec for 910 years (12.8 avg). Long catch of 48 yards and 6 TDs. That's about 14 catch drop off from 2019 and 17 catches down from 2018. He was down about 150 yards compared to 2019 and 450 yards from 2018. TDs were up by 1 but Kittle has never really been an end zone target for the 49ers so not worth comparing. My assessment based on the stats and my eyes in watching the games is that Kittle wasn't used as much and didn't have as many big plays as his first two "big" years. It was a down year for him but only slightly.

Grant's YouTube show is a sports opinion entertainment show. He definitely and often reaches into conspiracy land. His SI articles are less opinionated but still carry a bit of a negative tone. This is Grant's voice. I have no issues with any of this.

Kinlaw is a young immature athlete who seems easily offended. Grant is taking advantage of him by publicizing this incident and later baiting Kinlaw to get more clicks and media attention. This says a lot about Grant as a person. These kinds of player reporter interaction happens quite a bit I presume, and mature reporters keep it down low to protect the players and team.
Can't wait to see another workout video!

Grant should take advantage of the situation. Kinlaw did this to himself by walking into the media/press area and trying to intimidate Grant. That's just stupid for many reasons, least of which he invaded the space of reporters and then knocked the hat off Grant thus touching him. Kinlaw is a huge guy who knew what he was doing by using violence and intimidation. Based on what I heard about that incident and the follow up video I will say Grant was mature and professional. I do not pretend to say Grant is that all the time but here I don't see him being at fault or in the wrong. This is all on Kinlaw and there 49ers have another situation to handle.
Just watched Kinlaw on Cohns YouTube... I'm not a Grant fan but that s**t is embarrassing as hell for him and the 49ers. Kinlaw is a massive bust and acting like a little kid. The fact that he is letting a reporter get under his skin that much is concerning. The guy needs to grow up some. Makes the 49ers look really bad.

The 49ers need to just accept he is a bust and move on. Not like he is going to play many games this year anyway. This was my viewpoint a month ago and it still is. Also I would love for the 49ers to basically tell Sports Illustrated that Grant is no longer welcome as a reporter.
